Has anyone repaired a broken rod tip and improved the rod? I have 2 rods like this. Both broke at about 2 inches from the end. After I fixed them ,they turned out better. Has anyone else had this experience

Never had them be better.  Some about the same most worse than before.

I broke the tip on a 7'mh cut it off at the next guide and turned it into a 6'9 heavy. Made an amazing frog rod. 

That tells me you like shorter rods!

I've got 2 rods in my basement that arrived with the tip broke off to the first eye.  Have yet to get them fixed.  Maybe I should give it a try.

 

I've actually had two rods (not high end) modified by cutting to the first guide and replacing it with a new tip guide. Made the rods less tip heavy.  That said, rods have a taper that's engineered to their length. Such changes interrupt the rod's flow and make them a bit clubby.

Nope.....once busted, that rod goes straight to the trash.

I have a 6'3" MLXF Legend Tournament rod that was

pretty sweet at that length. Then by stupid mistake 

I lopped about 3 or so inches off it. It was still sweet,

but it lost more since and is a bit stiff for what I like.

Still use it, but for heavier stuff.

 

Mod'd a 6' ML rod (BPS MicroLite) to 5'9", same with a

6' ML St. Croix Premiere. That one is probably my fav

rod of all now (the Premiere at 5'9").

I should also add that I have done the reverse mod, too!

 

Shortened two BPS Carbonlites from 6'6" to 6'3" by lopping

3" off the butt end. Nicer to fish from a kayak with the

shorter ends.

If your idea of "better" is shorter and stiffer, than yes.

Usually no, got a falcon bucoo crankster spinning rod that after losing 2" or so has lost just a bit of it's moderate action and is a slick all around rod now.

Oh man, I wasn’t even thinking it until you said that!

 

i have 1 rod that was a cheap ($40) spinning rod for drop shotting, but it was an excellent all around rod. I broke about an inch off the top, I went ahead and cut it down to the next eye, I’m going to give it to my daughter to use since it’s still plenty sensitive and casts well. I replaced it with a more expensive rod and I’m not sure that I prefer the more expensive one.
