Monofilament/CoPolymer - Whats the most sensitive brand you have used ?

Featured Replies

Over the past two years I've gone back to Monofilament/Copolymer on all my Rods and Reels, for every technique except Hollow Body Frogs. I've tried Berkley XL, Berkley XT, Cajun Red Cast, Cajun Red Lightning, Spiderwire Ultimate Mono, Pline CXX, Yozuri Hybrid and Matzuo Cold Water Mono. All of these lines perform very differently, and I've yet to find a monofilament I'm completely satisfied with. What mono/copolymer have you tried that offers lower stretch, sensitivity, abrasion resistance and castability. I realize wanting all these qualities in a Mono/Copolymer is maybe impossible, but I'd like to hear some opinions.

I use Maxima Ultra Green 5 lb for finesse spinning and Sunline Defier Armilo Nylon 11 lb and 25 lb.

Tom

Sufix Siege is the best all around mono i have used. it is abrasion resistant and strong (like Big Game and XT) but much more limp.

I even use it on spinning gear in 4, 6 and 10 pound tests. it casts great.

on my curado 200i I use 12 pound. its amazing.

It may not cast as far as some of the 'super limp' monos like XL but you much more strength and abrasion resistance while still being limp/castable enough.

its the overall best I have found so far, i used to use XL all the time but I started having strength and durability issues. It was always nice and limp though.

@WRB has converted me from a braid to leader or just braid to having a few set-up with Armilo. In fact I am throwing some 11 lb to try with jerks. I really like it with CB.

Tried Gamma Polyflex, it feels like a slinky......but it was on a noodle

I use Trilene XL for my poppers and use Silver Thread Copolymer AN40 on some of my finesse bait casters and all my non braid spinning reels.

Berkley Big Game Mean Green ?

Sufix Tritanium. Academy only I think....

10 is great all around, 14 worming, both tough to break with your hands.

Cheapest too, 11.99 for a big spool, 1000+ yards.

Im likeing this pline fluro clear. Not as sensitive as straight fluro but I'm able to feel those slack line bites. Knot strength has been holding up pretty well. Haven't had any problems with abrasion and alot of my lakes have zebra muscles.  I do use kvd spray before every trip so that might be a big factor.

Thank you for all of the input , probably going to try the suffix siege first and maybe the Armilo if I can convince myself to spend $17.99 on 165yards

Truth! Added bonus of 1200yds for under $10!

I have tried a few also and the one I keep going back to is McCoy’s mean green and xtra clear copolymer. Has great abrasion resistance and great line management. I have never felt like i needed more sensitivity out of it either. I have also bought some silver thread an40 to try this year and so far I haven’t been disappointed but I have only used it for a couple months so time will tell.

No idea if the lines I am using fit your criteria or not.  I just know I like them.  I use a lot of AN40 and Siege.  Smalljaw67 mentioned to me that Spiderwire Ultracast Ultimate Mono was the best mono he had ever used.  He did mention that it had more memory in larger sizes, but he was using lighter on spinning rods.

I am trying some McCoy Mean Green and Izorline XXX.  Haven't used either enough to form an opinion other than to say they are handling well so far.  Both get good reviews.

Two other lines that I zero experience with, but reviews are very good on are Maxima and Gamma.

So many lines.......so little time.    :D

Answer: Yo-Zuri Hybrid.  Stretches less than any non-braid line including fluorocarbon line, and high marks for your other listed criteria too...

I’m in the Maxima camp too when I use mono

I am a huge fan of McCoy’s. Highly reccomended. I personally use the 12lb xtra clear on my cranking rod. No issues whatsoever over the past 4 years of using it.

The main two that I like are Sunline and Maxims. Ive gone back to mono for spinning. Ive also heard good things about McCoy line also. I haunt tried them all, but am always looking for strength,  and good handling. I would say Sunline has worked the best so far. In always looking for something better though

Big Game green or  Ande Tournament.......
