Been thinking about getting some glasses for fishing. Was hoping someone could suggest a good “budget friendly” pair that does not look too dorky. In regards to what is best for me does it matter what color water I fish normally or species of fish? TIA for the recommendations!

Go to the fishing department at WalMart and buy the least dorky, Strike King, POLARIZED sunglasses they have. Dark colors for bright days, Amber for overcast days. Water color and fish species don't matter.

I gotta agree with these guys. I dont see a ton of difference from color to color or brand to brand as far as the ability to see through surface glare into the water. Some are more comfortable than others, some cut glare a little better in relation to their darkness... for example I have costa del mar with 580g lenses, they aren't that dark but do a great job at cutting glare, relatively speaking. 

 

The strike king ones work fine, so do the other walmart ones that come polarized... I'm thinking its Foster Grant. They work well too.

they even have the bifocals too!

You're not a true angler unless you go buy the most expensive Costas

Kastking as usual has decent quality for cheap prices. Walmart has a decent selection in the fishing aisle with the most expensive being $20. My daughter loves them. They have an Ike logo ripoff on the side. As said earlier... any self-respecting angler wheres Costas. I got a great pair for $120 plus 20% off ebay promo code from American angler. They retail for $199. They still have some in stock if you want to hold off til next promo. 

I've been using Eye Surrender glasses (TW has them for 50 bucks) for a few seasons now and have been very happy with them. 

Strike King S11 glasses are great at like $20 a pair.

Renegades are not bad. Strike kings make my head hurt but I have a big  head.

Terminator markets a light weight pair of polarized sunglasses with mirror lenses. $20-$25. I pucked up a pair (at WalMart)  to have for guests aboard my boat. Ended up using them myself and was impressed. 

Look sun glasses are sun glasses, doesn’t matter what you wear, it’s how you use them. Yes I own costas, now, but I fished for years with strike king polarized glasses and whatever cheapos I found at the local tackle shop. I made a decision to invest into good fishing gear a few years ago because I decided to make it my

main hobby and drop a lot of other hobbies for fishing. I will say this, any true angler doesn’t have costas...but he does have 2 pairs, maybe 3 of polarized glasses. Amber, dark grey and a bluish green lense, the latter being of very specific use, or for wearing out and about. 

Coocoons will run you no more than 50. And they a big head friendly ?

Calcutta’s are really nice for $20. Been wearing them the past few years. Best I’ve found for the money.

Been using these for a few years now. Very light and comfortable. They  don’t squeeze your melon causing headaches.

I've had nothing but issues with Strike King lenses losing their coating by simply being in the rain. Go to clean them and they start flaking.

I use to use inexpensive glasses save your money buy a good pair it makes a big difference on your eyes,body,and seeing what you are fishing , highly recommend Wiley x for $100 

Hmm, I was all gung ho about this idea but after reading people talk about you really need a different colored lens based upon the water clarity/color on that day and the sunlight conditions I am starting to rethink this. If I could find a nice universal pair I'd do it but this is starting to seem to complicated and expensive.

Nobody in this thread said anything about water clarity being a consideration. Grey or dark lenses would be the ones you'll use most often. Go with those.

Before I needed prescription sunglasses I used cheap strike kings I got from Walmart. Not the best but polarized which was what I was looking for. Mine came with the strap to keep you from losing them. I remember my Father in laws friend losing a pair of $400 prescription sunglasses over the side of the boat so I was glad to have them.

 

The new new line from Kastking look great and the most expensive pair is $40 with soft and hard case.

I just received a pair of the Kastking's yesterday. Fit good, feel great, and look good. Haven't worn them out yet so only time will tell.

Not all inexpensive sunglasses are made the same. If you decide to get an inexpensive (cheap) pair be careful. If you wear them all day and your eyes sting, itch or bother you at the end of the day when you take them off, toss them. They are going to damage your eyes. Quality glasses are expensive for a reason

I bought a pair of Cocoons for about $55. I love them and they were one of the few that cost less than a hundred dollars and fit over my prescription glasses. I think they definitely perform better than the Wal-Mart specials I had been using as far as spotting fish in the water. They also have a lifetime warranty!

Just get some costa's I get them for like $120 for 580G 

 

I rather to wear good ones cuz i only have a pair of eyes

Yup, start with grey. If you find yourself fishing a lot of true overcast days maybe consider some amber lenses.
