What line do you use for throwing Chatterbaits?  I have a softer tip 7’-3” rod with co-poly.  But casting distance suffers compared to braid.  I find I’m really whipping it to get distance.  Would switch to braid but a bit concerned I don’t keep the fish buttoned up...

IMO keeping the fish pinned is done with the rod.  I use braid for chatter baits and love it.

I use braid on a GLX MBR and am happy with the results. When throwing around rock, I add leader

What line and weight are you using? 

I use 20lb sun line mono and a 6’9” hvy rod.  My distance seems plenty far enough but if I need more I would switch to a longer rod.

Braid with heavy fluorocarbon leader, at least 15lb, often 17lb, and sometimes 20. Pike love these things, and on straight braid I might as well just cut them off , throw them in the water myself, and avoid the hassle of casting. 

 

Fluoro. doesn't eliminate bite offs, but it drops the loss rate to acceptable ratios.

I use a 2 1/4 inch leader made by Wayzata Bait since I live in pike infested waters.  Works 90% of the time, and is small enough not to be visible when moving or hinder action/vibration.  Maybe worth a try..

I’m using Yo-Zuri Hybrid 12 lb... on a 7’-3” MH rod.

I can’t imagine 12lb yz hybrid line being an issue and I have never really found braid to cast any better/further than mono/flouro/copoly of similar diameter.  

 

I use 15lb InvisX.

Been on a killer Vibrating Jig bite all week too.

16# Sunline Sniper. Throws as far as I need.

12 or 15lb yozuri hybrid for me and it works great.  

Braid for me but I throw them around Lilly pads and thick grass. 

I've tried Pline CXX and Yozuri Hybrid in 15lb with great success. But believe it or not, my go to line for Chatterbaits on a Moderate Fast rod is 14 and 17lb Cajun Red Smooth Cast. Ive had ZERO issues with this line for my Chatterbait fishing, it's very dependable and casts well. I only wish I could find it locally in their new Gator Green color !

15lb CXX is my go to. I can cast further than I really need to with the line/reel/rod combo I'm using with a 3/8oz bladed jig. 

I fish Chatterbaits using my jig rod, reel and line because it's a jig with a blade.

I did also for a long time until I changed to a composite rod and seem to like it better.

Cxx works well you put 15 pound Cxx that lines not braking I don’t care what anyone says you’re gonna have to cut that line off and hardly barely any stretch I prefer CX premium I just have that tied on most my moving baits and has less memory, 15 pound for spinnerbait/chatter bait.

Who you think showed me that one? Mr. Ballz himself. Trying to get him to show me offshore now. I fish real cover so I need the braid sometimes. Your CXX is ok for them dinks you chase though.?

Based on Alex’ recommendation at ALX may pick up a Toadface for next year specifically for Bladed Jigs..

#10 Hybrid line or 12lb big game line, don't see the need of bigger line than this, maybe becuz I caught only dinks.

I’ve thrown them successfully on braid and mono. If I’m fishing heavy grass, then I throw them on braid. Otherwise, I stick with the same 12lb mono I throw all of my other moving baits on.
