Googan Plastics

Recommended Posts

Browsing through my local shop last night I noticed that they now carried the Googan line of plastic baits. I've heard a lot of talk about these baits (and this thread is not about your opinion of the guys who run this company), so I picked up a few packs and checked out the baits. They seem well made and nicely packaged. The colors looked good and the shapes of the bait looked great too. However, what turned me away was the $6.99 price tag at my shop. At that price, I'll stick to my Rage Tail and Netbait plastics. So my question for you guys is have any of you guys tried these things yet? How do they work compared to some of the other more established brands out there?

I've heard a little about them and seen some stuff at Sportsmans Warehouse, but for that $ I'll stick to GYB.

Slight variations on the same basic plastic styles, much like any other brand.  I think I read somewhere that they licensed the use of the Rage Tail appendage style, so they will have similar action to RT baits.

The one that looks like a Rage Bug but with 2 extra side-flappers caught my eye as a swing-head or Carolina rig bait...But I've got boxes full of Rage Bugs already.

On TW they are essentially the same price as a pack of Rage Tail baits, not really outrageous IMO...Local stores might up-charge I guess.  Regardless of who 'designed' them, they look like baits that would catch fish.

DSG has them as well. Like someone mentioned, not much different than a lot of other things out there, I'm sure they work fine. Am I allowed to use them even if I don't have a social media presence?...

Yes, but you won't get the pro staff discount.

I am going to eventually pick up a pack of their slim shake worms. That's about the only bait they make that looks interesting to me.

I just saw them today at DSG.  First they are charging seven bucks for 9 trickworms.  Second, they are packaging said trickworms in a plastic clam shell.  I kayak past enough floating plastic trash as is and it's not like worms are fragile.  Good luck to them for shooting for the high-end market, but I wonder if their core audience has that much to spend.

I sell more high end BMX bikes to 9-14 year olds than many other segments, and since most just want what they want and have no idea (or don't care) about the value of a dollar is, they just plunck it down. The look on parents' faces when they find out how much that rear wheel Johnny wants for Xmas is just priceless...

Googan either licensed Rage Tail patent or a law suit is comming, it hasn't been 17 years since the patent was issued or it was defeated?

I think it’s brilliant on their part. Their core audience is upper middle class pre-teen/teenagers that get what they want.

I was at DSG once when their was apparently a meet and greet with Andrew Flair and it was like a giant middle school prep boy Justin Bieber hair extravaganza.

Whether I like what they are doing or not (and whether their gear and equipment is junk or gold), they have done at excellent job of generating interest in their market and are going to get rich off of it.

The baits remind me of a mix between Yum and Rage Tail.

They have the smoothness and body profile of Yum-type baits and the appendages of Rage Tail.

Along with Favorite rods. I noticed Dick's now carries both as well. No idea how well they work or if they're worth the money or even half of the money you pay for them, but they're showing up everywhere.

I will leave you with this :)

That's funny. I think Rob wen't off on DSG on Twitter regarding their tactical rifle policy and now they carry his baits.

LOL. There's a fat one? Rob's the older one, the veteran. His YouTube channel is LunkersTV. Some of the Googans are really immature and annoying. There is another guy they associate with called LakeForkGuy that acts mature. He's also a grownup.

Yes.  Reviews like this one are why.  Their marketing is on point.  This is likely a teenager, who doesn't care what the cost is.

YouTuber's are the new "rockstars."

I'll probably try the Bandito Bug when I get through my other plastic craws. Some of their stuff I can't stand to watch, but some are outright hilarious, such as:

Is that a knock on LakeForkGuy's cancerous brain tumor removal?

YouTube is what blossomed my addiction to fishing.  I can't deny that finding the Googan Squad's video's when having ZERO fishing knowledge, they managed to teach me a lot of good info.  Their videos are not how to videos, they are entertainment, however, they throw tips in there.  When you know nothing, their care free seemingly laxisdaisicle approach took the intimidation factor out of fishing for me.

Now that I have a knowledge base of my own built, I watch their videos purely for entertainment.

They've managed to put themselves in a great position, like them or not.  You can hate their "fishing" but you have to respect their business sense, lol.
