The most important thing is to clean parts and use an appropriate lubricant for the application. There's no magic. Ex:  Boca Lightning Lube, or Tsi on spool bearings, blue marine grease on gears and 8

I use marine grease on gears and paraffin based lubricant for spool bearings, levelwinds, etc.

https://detectorbuy.com/lubricants/  This is where I get mine from.  Shipping can be a little much though, but if you're buying in quantity, this is the place to go.  I also buy TSI 301 and use it on worm gears, level wind pawls, and the very ends of spool shafts where they contact the spool tension knob and side plate.

A word to clarify what TSI 301 and TSI 321 are.  TSI 301 is a strong solvent with TSI 321 suspended in it.  If TSI 301 comes into contact with plastic before it dries, it will damage it, but it evaporates super quick.  TSI 321 is pure lubricant and will not damage plastic. This stuff was developed for NASA many years ago because regular oil cannot be used in space and this stuff sort of "permeates" metal surface, so there is nothing left to float off in a space environment.

I'd like to try this TSI 321 everybody is talking about.

I just want the 4 oz. bottle. It's $9 direct from the site listed above. But shipping is $19.

I look on Amazon and Ebay and see people selling bottles with different-looking labels than the one in the above link. Is TSI 321 a 'type' of oil than different manufacturers make? Is it a brand? I'm not sure where to buy and what's/who's reputable.

AFAIK, it's a brand.  I think I recall paying around $25 for 4 oz.  That is more than you'd need in most lifetimes.  You should be able to find a 1/2 oz. dropper bottle for less.  Smooth Drag sells a 1 oz. bottle for under $10.
