Shimano Curado K vs Daiwa Tatula 150

Recommended Posts

I like the Curado K body over the Tatula, but the MagforceZ braking is all external and easier to dial-in IMO. Both are very very good reels, but if I was putting this on a rod where I would be swapping lures with varying weights a lot, I'd go with the Tatula. If my lures would be all around the same weight and I didn't have to futz around with the internal brakes a lot, the Curado.

Also, what rod is the reel going on?  Heaven knows you can't put a Daiwa on a Shimano rod, and vice versa or bad things start to happen to you.

External braking system adjusted by a simple 1-20 dial system.

Negligible in my experience. It may help on thicker diameter lines, but I cast both reels far enough out it doesn't make a noticeable difference. If you use a leader knot, it may not pass through the T-Wing, depending on the knot and thickness of the line.

I have both. The Daiwa 150 is a touch over 8oz and has a larger frame. It's a fantastic reel. It casts great and is super smooth when reeling. Barely ever backlashes even with wind around. It has a large line capacity too, if that's something you need.

The Curado has a more connected feel but isn't better. Both are excellent reels. I had to get used to the little bit larger and heavier reel with the 150, but I ended up loving it too.

I like Daiwas braking system better and they are a lot easier to dial in than my Shimanos

I enjoy casting the 150. Its consistent and works. Not mind blowing distance, but good.  It's a pretty clear line when reducing the braking when to quit.

I love everything about the K but the casting. Too heavy of a spool with the newer braking for my tastes. Classic case of trying to fix something that wasnt broken. Having used a few others in the line up w/lighter spools and the same infinity brakes, I liked them alot better than K.

The tatula is def easier to setup and casts a little further than a curado. Overall I prefer the curado though, it’s smoother and just feels more durable in hand. Both are fantastic reels though

This. I love my tatulas but I'm also a braid to leader guy and it can be an issue with larger lines having the leader knot hang up on the way back into the reel. I'm hoping some day they'll re-design it or offer a different version that has wider entry angles to account for this. But I love the Magforce braking system so I still buy them.
