Sunday I snapped off two quality largies recently on hooksets using P Line. Anyone else have breakage issues with it? I habitually check for Knicks and abrasions, and always lubricate when cinching down. Using a two turn clinch knot.

P line , what ? If you don't have a nick in one of your guides , probably just a bad spool of line or a bad area in the spool.

Probably the line. While I never had issues with breakage when I had it, many members on here hate that stuff.

Flouroclear. Guides are good to go. I use the flouroclear fun fishing for money savings.

When i was trying P line fluoroclear i would have a lot of knot strength issues the the best knot I found for it was the fish n' fools knot witch even then I would still have frequent break offs at the knot. After about a month I had enough and got rid of it.

15lb new spool 2 weeks old. I keep all line inside my closet out of the heat of the garage.

Tom it's what berkley refers to as the Trilene knot.

Trilene knot is basically a 5-7 turn improved clinch knot, tied properly should give 80% knot strength. San Deigo jam knot is more reliable with FC type line.

Tie the to 2 lures without hooks on a 2' length of line and snap the lures apart to test the line, 15 lb should break easily doing this. Then try tieing your Trilene knot on 1 end and the SD jam knot on the other, should help you decide which knot to use.

There should be mfr date code on the spool; eg 3118 = 31st week of 2018.

Tom

PS, not a fan of FluoroClear line.

Awesome great information. I already tossed the line out and bought some red lable. Still a good cost effective line from what I've read.

Never tried the SD Jam but I will this weekend. Thank you.

If you haven't tried it yet, you should try the Pitzen or 16/20 knot.  It is very similar to the San Diego Jam but way faster to tie and as strong.

The last P line I had an issue with was at the baseball stadium.  You see, I'd had too many beers and the line to the restroom was all the wayout the door and waaaaaay down the hall.

Aren’t they the same knot?

Never really had a problem with floroclear. Actually like the stuff, but

use Yo Zuri Hybrid more because I have a lot more of it....

PLFC is a bit slicker, so the knot needs to be solid.

There's your problem :P Saves you money but costs you fish. A search of these forums would have shown you that next to Vanish, Fluoroclear is the next best thing for making fish disappear  Now go out and buy some good line :roflmao:

I spooled up some 10# Fluoroclear for my Florida visit last year.  I found out the first day that it broke too easily.  Luckily I had spare reels with me so I switched that reel out.

100% Floro PLine I have been using for at least a decade and have never had any problems. Floroclear I have heard some stories about but have never used it myself.

Fluoroclear is the only line I have had problems with.  I love Pline 100% and Tactical.  Great line.  Find it on sale and it's even better.  Tactical is 50% off right now at Cabelas.

I agree with some of the others. I’ve also had issues with fluoroclear. The line casts far, but the fact that it’s so soft and supple sacrifices its overall strength imo. I mostly use it for panfishing now.

They are very similar but not the same knot.  The variation comes after the wraps.  The S D Jam goes through the gap in the line next to the hook then back to the loop while the Pitzen just goes back to the loop.  That difference is what makes it so fast to tie because you can use the bait as a pendulum and let it swing instead of wrapping the line around and around.

With SD jam knot using the lure weight to back wrap the double line towards the lure is standard practice and easy to put the tag end through bottom and top openings. The difference is the SD jam knot is snugged up then slide down the line to the lure and cinched tight. Very easy knot to tie when fishing.

I found the Trilene knot sucks on P Line Floroclear.  I used the standard Palomar Knot and I haven't lost fish since.

This is your problem. Breakage has always been an issue with this line for myself and my buddies. The CXX is SUPER strong and I like the Moss Green color for stained water. It does have a lot of memory though.

Yes. Saying goes for me with these lines: Vanish makes fish vanish from the end of your line and FlouroClear clears fish from the end of your line...
