6th sense crankbait paint and overall durability?

Featured Replies

I've been looking at a few of these lures in the lipless and squarebill variety and was wondering how the durability of the paint job is. I've read a few reviews that say they are great baits, but the paint jobs chip off very easily. For those who own and use them, is this true? How do you like them?

I own some but haven't fished them yet. I might coat mine with "Hard As Nails" clear coat before I fish them just to make sure...that stuff is bulletproof!

The paint has held up well for me.  Great action on them also.

I haven't had an issues with chipping on the few I have use. I'm fishing a lot of vegetation and clay bottom water and some stump fields. I could see the finish being compromised if fishing rocks and rip rap though.

I have broken numerous of the bills on squarebills and flat side cranks within the first 5-10 casts. Seems like they come in bad batches, because I have a few of them that have received a lot of fishing time with no problems.

I must say they have some of the best finishes of any lure I've seen...Megabass style/quality finish with a Strike King price, you can't go wrong :D.

I have quite a few 6th Sense cranks/square bills. Haven't had any issues yet. I'll say one thing, their hooks out of the package are the real deal. And like others have said, the paint jobs are a thing of beauty.

Last year I converted all my cranks to 6th Sense.  They are great lures.

No issues at all on durability, including the paint.

This spring I've been bouncing my squarebills off rocks and wood and they still look great.

And as said above the hooks are outstanding.

I get their super 6 box every month and couldn't be happier. As said above the hooks and even the split rings are top notch. I'm not sure what makes it different but the rattle they make is nothing like other out there.

After another thread where A-jay talked me into 6th Sense, I purchased a few. My SK's are basically 3-4 trip lures and they get trashed and that's even after changing the hooks. I've come to accept that.

Well tried one of my new 6th Sense cranks, and they run great and catch fish. That was to be expected, and I didn't have to change hooks after the second fish.

Here's a picture of the one I threw, it's a crush 50 I believe, this is a picture after 1 trip. It produced several Bass, and several bowfin(mudfish). One bowfin was pushing 10lbs, true giant of a trash fish. Overall, I'll likely purchase more. I'll include a few on each tacklewarehouse order. Very happy customer

Personally, my first experience with Sixth Sense was a bad one. I bought a crankbait from TW and was not sure if I should consider the paint job a defect so I attempted to email their customer service. They never responded which l found annoying. I eventually returned it to TW but have not been inclined to order more of their products.

Their paint is good, but I've broken bills on several baits, the Crush Flat 75X being the worst offender. It's weird though because I'll get one that breaks like it's made of glass, then I'll get one that's built like a tank. It hasn't been bad enough to keep me from buying them anyways. I'm liking their jerkbait too, but it's hard to get many colors because they always seem to be sold out. I did get a hold of one pretty one that caught me a couple dozen fish Friday and has barely and noticeable marks on the finish.

I thought I was the only one that bought baits A-Jay recommended. I have some of the colors and types he recommends but I haven't had a chance to use them yet.

@Log Catcher, nope your not the only one. He posts up too many pictures of big Bass for me not to listen. Fella might be 1000miles away but I do take notes! ?

You are right about the fish he catches. My problem is the places I fish for Smallmouth  are completely different from what he is fishing. I am either fishing a river or creeks. He is fishing big lakes.

I have a bunch and obsoulutely love them, never had a problem with them breaking and the only chipping of paint is after then catch 50 bass and a day of hammertime !
