Just wondering has anyone had any problems leaving soft plastics in the car during the summer? Do they melt?

I leave mine in my trunk all summer so I dont have to keep emptying it every time I fish. The only thing that happens is they sometimes will get softer and if you have colors mixed they will start bleeding into each other. 

Ever have a creased fluke tail?

A folded over swim bait paddle tail?

Or how about an out of shaped ribbon tail?

 

Lay them on a piece of paper towel placed your dashboard in hot car. 

Wait few minutes and they'll be like new.

Worry more about your mono/coploy line at temps over 105 degrees.

Temps inside a car can reach 140 degrees during hot summer days.

I leave my stuff in my truck all summer.  I don't co-mingle different plastic colors, so I never have any issues.  I worry more about letting my gear get exposed to prolonged sunlight.

I left a lipless crankbait in the truck over a hot weekend, it expanded into a pregnant lipless crank. Action on it was awesome tho.

I have lots of swollen pregnant crank baits , I use them for gar. That way I don’t care when they bite them in half 

This post reminds me of when I was a kid back in the 70's.......I'd go fishing and open up my tackle box and my plastics would be a big blob........lol.

 

They've gotten better since then. 

Don't leave a lighter in your car/truck either. (I keep one to burn the ends of bungee/rope.) There was shrapnel everywhere; had I been in the vehicle a medivac would have been needed.

I sometimes forget to take a bag of plastics out and they always end up bent out of shape from the heat. I have what I consider entire bags of ruined Trick Worms especially. This is in Illinois. It gets hot here (not yet this year tho) for a few months but nothing like other states. I don't know how people get away with keeping them in their cars.

I have had no issues with the heat but I left a Z-Man craw laying in the back of my SUV and it ended up under a plastic sandwich baggie. They reacted and turned in to a giant blob of melted, salty goo. Be aware that they don’t mix with ANY other kind of plastic material, not just other plastic lures.

I'm not surprised, I keep my ZMan baits in the fridge. I lost a few bags when they melted together, even though they were in the original bags.

I've had no problems with my Z-Man plastics even though I've taken them out of the original packaging and put them into Ziploc Snack Size bags which are put in Plano 3606 boxes. Of course I don't leave them out in the heat - my 'worm bag' goes into the basement (steady 60^o) between trips.
