Tried one spool of Yo-Zuri 12 lb. hybrid line in 2005.  Sorry to say, never used the entire spool, and have not used it since.  Had numerous break-offs.  Unscientific tests (glove on each hand and 12 inches line between) comparing Yo-Zuri to other 12 lb. lines that I had on hand would never have yielded 20# breaking strengths for 12# line.  

My question.  Have they improved the line that much since 2005, or did I most likely just get a bad spool?  Needing to buy some bait caster line and wondering about giving them another try.

Seems like a bad spool.Yozuri Hybrid is a proven good line.

I like my Yozuri hybrid line and it is pretty much all i use on set ups that aren't braid.  

Most of my setups have Yo-Zuri. I love the stuff. I've broken off on a fish one time ever while using it, and that was earlier this year. It's insanely strong and the diameter isn't that much thicker in comparison to other lines. 12lb Hybrid for example is still almost exactly the same diameter of 12lb Trilene XL, except I can uproot a tree with the Hybrid and break off on a blade of grass with the XL. With KVD LL there's no memory issue either.

I echo the above posts. The line works great and have had no issues with breaking. A little line condition before each trip and no worries. 

I use to like it because of the great knot strength, for me even with the KVD conditioner #12 had memory problems so I used #10. Used it for a couple of years without any problems. It seemed to be great line.

 I quit using because of sudden breaks in the spool. It happens shortly after an overrun in Fluoro lines from what I've read, but instead of once a year like the first couple seasons I used it, it happened alot. Maybe it was the green color as TW had it on clearance and Yo Zuri was discontinuing it, maybe it was bad spools or lack of QC but i have not used it since.

You may have just had a bad spool. I had one spool of 20lb that would randomly break off and was garbage. I regularly use the 6lb and 8lb without issues.

I tried a spool of 10lb several years ago and it was some of the thickest, hardest to manage 10lb line I've ever bought. I fished it for about 5 cast before I put the rod up and stripped it off when I got back home and threw it all away. I've heard so many good things but that left me with such a bad taste in my mouth that I'm afraid to try it again. 

Not a fan. I have tried 14, 12 and 10.

I bought a spool of 12 last year.  Not a fan.  Didn't use it much.  Frays way too easily for my liking.  Others seem to like it though.

I tried it too....twice, nothing to write home about. 

I'm another guy who bought a bad spool. I was shocked when I first came to this site and saw all of the love for it.

It must have been a bad spool. It happens. I've had bad spools of numerous lines before, including tried-and-true Seaguar Invisx and Trilene XT.

 

I love the 10 and 12# Hybrid for moving baits on baitcasting reels. That's about all I would recommend it for: crankbaits (10#), spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, bladed jigs, topwater. It's a little stiff prior to the KVD L&L, but it's very tough and knots break rarely. I have a 3-pound (10,000yard) spool of the 12# I've been using for years. 

I still use it, particularly for cranking rods.  12# is the max I will go, however.  Just couldn't tame 15#.

I do use KVD spray every time out.

I've not had any problems with the 4# on my UL or the 10# on my Trion...which I use for lighter crank/smaller jerkbaits (3/8 oz or less cranks, 2 treble jerks) or lighter T-Rigs (1/4 oz or less weight).

 

Also regularly treat it with KVD.
