When fishing curly tail grubs, do you prefer single or double tail ones. Thank you.

Depends on the lure. Larger ones - 1/2oz or bigger spinner/chatter/buzzbaits...I'll go with a twin-tail. Smaller ones of those three I'll use single-tail. Swim-jigs is either single-tail or paddle-tail.

Thank you for your reply. The reason I ask this question, is because I have never fished a double tail curly grub. 

I fish the single as a swim jig trailer or a bare jighead, the double as a jig trailer when pitching or fishing the bottom. Two different baits for me. The single is a more subtle smaller profile, the double presents a larger, wider, louder one. 

Also, single grubs vary in their action. I fish a few different ones, and most will do the job, but I usually turn to the fat albert in both, or the old reliable Mr Twister double.

The closest I fish to a double curly tail grub is the Rage Tail Menace, not quite a curly tail, but close...

As  trailers or stand alone on a jig head ?

I normally just use a single tail. But in the spring time a double tail on a chatterbait or spinnerbait can be deadly around here. 

I use a Zoom Fat Albert single tail grub if I am fishing it as a Texas rig. I use the twin tail Fat Albert for a jig trailer.

This for myself except for swim I use single tail or paddle tails. I also like single tails on horse heads with an underspin

Single tail will usually have a larger thicker tail this moving more water and creating a larger disturbance and more water displacement. Better for muddy or dirty water. For clear water and fishing on bottom with a jig twin tail as trying to represent either craws or baitfish so the twin tails can be pinchers or rigged sideways can be the tail.

What size double tail does everyone prefer as a jig trailer?

 

5" sounds giant to me, but it seems like 4-5" is a pretty standard size.

Early spring water temp 45-60 degrees I had good success using 3 inch single tail grubs on chatter baits. I like the bigger 4 and 5 inch single tail grubs for early to mid summer with spinner baits.  Mid summer to late summer I usuly up grade to using full paddle tail swim baits on chatter and spinner baits.  Usually I try to match the color with the bait.  Smaller ones I have had success with any and all grubs mfg.  bigger ones are Kailins and fat Albert. 
 

my all time get the skunk out the boat lure is a 3 inch black twister tail on a plain jig head.  It will catch panfish-pike
