Tis The Season

It’s that time of year again when we find love in our hearts for those we usually hate.  No I’m not talking about Christmas,  I’m talking about Bowl season.  The only time of the year when I love every team in the SEC.  I’ll be cheering for LSU to win the National championship, for Georgia in the Sugar.   ROLLL!......well I can’t actually bring myself to say it but I’ll be pulling for Alabama in the Citrus Bowl, even though it makes me feel dirty.  Good luck to all eight SEC teams playing in a bowl this year.  I can’t wait for it to get started this weekend.

I am the same way. I want all of the SEC teams to win their bowl games.

It is always nice to not have a dog in the fight and sit back and enjoy the game.

Hope LSU can take Oklahoma and keep rolling along.

And it was super that Tennessee made it to the Gator Bowl to face Indiana after their horrendous start.

Merry Christmas.

It's funny how that works. I'm a diehard Sooners fan and remember tapping into my inner Longhorns fandom when they played USC for the title 15 years ago... Vince Young might as well been Josh Heupel when he ran it in for the TD to end it. However, outside of the biggest games I tend to root for the underdogs more often than not.

P.S. Speaking of OU, it's pretty stress free this year feeling like you're playing with house money and the expectation to get blown out.

I'm a Buckeye, born and raised. Also from southeastern "Ahia" so I am rooting for Joey Burrow-unless he's playing against tOSU.

That being said, I will never understand rooting for the other teams in the conference like you SEC guys do. My assumption is that it's a "the South versus the World" type of thing. (As an Appalachian American I do pull for UK/WVU)

I hope Bama obliterates that team up north. I have a lot of respect for Wisconsin and a lot of friends in Minnesota, but otherwise I don't care about anyone else in the Big 10. Watching Penn St/UM lose is almost as gratifying as watching Ohio State win.

I don’t understand it either and I’m an “SEC guy.” I physically cannot cheer for conference foes

We want our conference to do well in their bowl games.

The problem is that they don't do well since they really don't care to be there. They want to be one of the four teams in the National Championship playoffs. And now the stars don't play to avoid getting hurt in a meaningless game.

I remember back in 1985 when LSU went to Memphis to play Baylor in the Liberty Bowl. Coach Arnsparger let the guys drive themselves to Memphis if they did not want to go with the rest of the team.

During the game we were wondering what was wrong with our safeties and corners. Seems they were hungover from drinking their way to the game and partying the night before kickoff.

LSU lost 21-7 that year and unless you know what Arnsparger did you would never figure it out how LSU could lose to Baylor.

I used to work for a large life insurance company.  At our annual meeting, I hung out with some Georgia and Alabama boys one night, and the hatred they shared for Auburn was the funniest thing I've ever heard.
