I’m looking to replace my duel purpose boat npbattery this year.  I’m looking for a good AGM battery that lasts a long time.  Any suggestions?

 

Ive heard that the Odessey AGM is good, anyone have experience with this battery?

my Optimas were five years old when I sold the boat.  Still kicking, as far as I know.

Specifically 31M Blue Top Dual Purpose Marine

New in 2016 and still throw out plenty of juice.

Electronics should be run off you cranker, not the deep cycles for your TM.  You might consider a hybrid cranker or a separate battery altogether for electronics.  But not your deep cycles for the TM, which is what most probably assumed you were asking about.

With modern electronics, do your self a favor and get the X2.  It is the only thing I have found that will do the job.

Thank you. That’s what I thought.  The Odessey battery has identical specs, but is $50.00 more.

That’s why I’m getting the duel purpose battery for cranking and boat electronics.  Thank you

There are lots of dual purpose batteries that won’t do the job the X2 will.

I use the group 31 Duracells and have been happy with them.

The premium marine AGM is Northstar followed by Oddessey. VMax Tank is a excellent imported battery. Optima Blue marine AGM is popular but made by Interstate a discount battery supplier. 

Not a fan of dual purpose batteries preferring deep cycle for trolling motors charge by home onboard chargers and cranking batteries for starting the OB and operating house electrical needs charged by the OB system. Cranking batteries have reserve amps and designed to be constantly recharged, deep cycle don't they are designed to be drained.

My VMax tanks are about 10 years now still going strong.

I've got two of these agm's in my boat that Is strictly electric and runs two trolling motors and electronics for hours at a time. I recharge them at least a hundred times during the summer. I also have one in my camper. Been happy with them. they are mostly used in solar power systems.

All things considered it is hard to beat the 31 vmax's. Oddessey is also very good.

UPS ( universal power supply) batteries are not deep cycle marine and check the warranty if used for trolling motor / marine use. UPS AGM's are good heavy duty battery  and often availble used for 1 year for around $40, check with your battery supplier.

Hm... I don't know exactly what that means. Mine are going on three years and still charging well and giving good longevity during a day out.

Businesses that use a bank of 10 UPS batteries change them out annually for a new set.  The 1 year old UPS batteries are sold as used at the low price....it means it's a good deal because they should last a least 5 years for budget minded folks.

I have (4) X2/Northstar 31 series AGM's in my boat.  Love em' and have had zero issues running all my units, etc. all day long.
