Noco Genius Charger

Featured Replies

Looking for a cheap onboard charger for my Jon boat. will have 2 batteries, 1 for trolling motor and one for electronics and livewell. I was recommended this on and it is an attractive price, but it only has 4 amps per for a total of 8 amps. I know this is not a lot, but I don't usually fish all day everyday. I am planning on setting it up so that the batteries can stay in the boat. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CBTRMZ4/?ref=exp_michaellopez_dp_vv_d

I don't have that unit, but I very highly recommend Noco Genius based on the portable one that I do have.

I have heard NOCO is a good brand. I think it was @A-Jay who recommended the NOCO GB70 which I plan to purchase very soon.

What about the 4 amp part? I am worried it won't be enough...will a 4 amp be big enough to fill a drained battery overnight?

I have a couple of the NOCO G3500s and they have been working well for years on various things. I used one for each of my two boat batteries last year before I purchase an onboard charger. They would charge my batteries in several hours. They are only 3.5 amps. I wouldn't often get my batteries below 50% before charging, but I would think even if they were then overnight charging would still be fine.

IDK.  I got 7.5 to be sure.

My buddy uses a 5 amp and his seem to do fine so I would say it should work. That being said, if you can pay the extra for a few more amps now it would be worth it in my opinion.

Was looking at their 3 bank 12 amp charger for when I put my 24 volt trolling motor and extra battery in my boat. Seems like a good deal for $150.

I had that same carger on my last boat.

with a group 27 trolling motor battery, it took around 12 hours to charge a near dead battery.

the starting battery was never discharged , so it went a lot faster.

I used it for 4 years without any problems.

One thing to watch with that charger is if you leave it on for long periods of time, it can slowly over charge the batteries.

I am talking for a month or more.

My current boat has a digital Minn Kota charger. it is a lot smarter. Once charged it completely shuts off power to the batteries until the voltage drops to a certain point. it also costs around 3 times more than the noco.

Norco Gen2, 12/24v, 20 amp / 10 amps per battery.

Tom

The amperage rating of a charger indicates the amount of amps it will put back in your battery in an hour. I have 100 amp batteries in my electric boat. If they drain to 50 amps each it takes about 2 1/2 hrs to bring them up to speed. If I had a 4 amp charger it would take about 12 hrs.

My charger has two 20 amp banks in it. I charge two batteries almost every night in the summer.

Another note: A lot of chargers (especially marine ones) these days have auto battery detection for the type of battery you have and they charge in stages that assist in battery longevity and automatically cut down to a trickle when the battery is full.

This is the one I have and it gets a lot of use...

I wound up with three batteries and at first I had a two bank battery tender but it was not waterproof, it charged too slowly and I had to move the cables to keep the third battery charged. .

Then I got a prosport, it was too big, got REALLY hot and did not have enough battery "state of charge" info so I sent it back.

Now I have had the Noco 3 bank (4A per bank) for over a year and as long as you follow reasonable battery drain guidelines and you're not using a 200Ah battery it will charge.

Noco has a 3 bank 30A model but I didn't need that charge rate or the expense.

There are no reviews of that web site. Looks like a possible scam to me. If it sounds too good to be true, I usually steer clear.
