  1. I paid 8K for my 2010 Tracker 175 with 90 HP motor. It had 132 hours on it and was in great condition, I bought it from the original owner.
  2. The old carburated 2stroke Evinrude/Johnson outboards are great engines as long as they have been maintained. The first few years of the Evinrude fuel injected and 4 stroke motors had a few problems but they have been worked out by now. Mercury outboards are very reliable as well.
  3. Brand doesn't really matter as long as it meets the correct specs. I use Walmart Supertech oil in my lower units.
  4. When it comes to gas trucks always try to get the lowest available gear ratio, 3.73 would be fine but 4.10s would be better. In theory higher gears like 3.23s get better fuel mileage, but in a real world situation where your working the truck that's rarely ever the case, the engine doesn't have to work as hard with lower gears so it will often get better fuel mileage.
  5. I have backed my single axle trailer off of the ramp a few times, never had any trouble pulling it back up.
  6. New for under 20K you need to look at the Tracker Classic with the 50 HP motor. Or a Pro 170 which is the same hull with a different layout.
  7. The 75-115 Optimax only has three spark plugs, I didn't have to remove the bottom cowling to change the spark plugs on my 90 hp.
  8. As long as you left the cap on it there is no problem at all.
  9. 80w90 and 90 weight are the same viscosity once up to operating temp, the only difference is the 80w90 flows better when cold.
  10. Was looking at their 3 bank 12 amp charger for when I put my 24 volt trolling motor and extra battery in my boat. Seems like a good deal for $150.
  11. Yes the 6.2 has proven to be very reliable, they even put it in the f150 for a few years 11-14 I believe.
  12. They do make a F150 with a factory supercharged 5.0 it's rated at 750 HP. Regardless what was said before about there is no replacement for displacement still holds true, a 3.5 liter Ecoboost making 15 psi of boost basically makes it equivalent to a 7 liter naturally aspirated engine.
  13. That's only because the Ecoboost has turbos, a twin turbo 5.0 V8 will stomp a V6 Ecoboost, and yes they do sell twin turbo kits for the 5.0.
  14. What era are you talking about? I have a Jeep 4.0 ( an engine design that dates back to the 60s) with almost 250,000 miles on it that still has excellent compression and doesn't use any oil between 5K oil change intervals, same goes for my 7.3 Powerstroke with 170,000 on it. As a mechanic I have seen several Jeep 4.0, Ford 300 I6, 302, 351 and 460 V8s, Dodge 318, 360, and GM 305, 350, and 454 engines with 200K or more that still have good compression and don't burn any oil, all of those engines were designed in the 60s-70s and used all the way up to the late 90s or early 2000s. Its the newer engines that have issues with excessive oil consumption, Ford, Chrysler and GM have all had quite a few recalls in the past 10 years because of excessive oil consumption in their engines.
  15. I just got a used one owner Tracker 175 TXW with a 90 HP Mercury for $8500. I looked at the new ones and it was 24K for a new Tracker 175 with a 75 HP motor which is the largest you can get on a 175 anymore. You can get a lot more for your money when you buy used if you know what to look for.
  16. My uncle has an ecoboost with less than 80K on it and has had nothing but problems with it, he already had to have the engine replaced once and it wasn't under warranty. A couple other guys I know have had the ecoboost and both got rid of them because they were at the dealer all the time for repairs, my dad testdrove a brand new one and it broke down on him and had to be towed back to the dealer. I know some people have good luck with them but based on the ones I have worked on and experiences from people I know I wouldn't have one. The V8s seem to have far less problems.
  17. They are great for perfomace but they aren't good for long term reliability. If you are the kind of person who gets rid of their vehicle when it gets over 100K then an ecoboost is probably fine, but if you want to buy used and keep the truck for another 80-100K, sooner or later your going to have a huge repair bill. Even basic maintinace like changing the oil is a pain to do on an Ecoboost. The V8 is far more simple, easier to work on, lasts longer and sounds better.
  18. My company truck is a GM 2500 with the 6.0, it tows 4-5K about the same as a V8 f150 does not bad at all. However towing with Ford Super Duty or Ram HD is a complely different experience, they feel more like a HD truck and seem handle big loads much better than the GM trucks do. Any 1/2 ton truck will tow a 4K boat without much issue. For Ford I would recommend avoiding the ecoboost and going with the 5.0 V8, for Ram the 5.7 Hemi is the only engine I would get, the GM 4.8, 5.3, 6.0 and 6.2 v8s are all pretty reliable but the 4.8 is pretty weak when towing, the 5.7 Tundras are good trucks also.
  19. I am looking for a service manual for my 2010 90 HP Mercury Optimax. I called my local Mecrury dealer and was told there is no service manual available for my engine, I have a hard time believing that, the service department has to have something to go by. Where can I find a factory paper service manual?
  20. It's in the 20s here now and the boat is covered up, I'll snap some pictures when I pull it into the garage and uncover it. I'm going to do some routine maintenance and a few upgrades.
  21. I ended up getting the 2010 Tracker for $8500.
  22. It's a 2010 90hp Optimax that came with the boat.
  23. I looked at the Pro Craft and the Tracker today. The Pro Craft was the original owner and had been garage kept its whole life so it was in great condition, however he sold it a few hours after I looked at it. The Tracker is also in great shape, original owner, kept under a car port with a cover. The seats and carpet are in great shape for a 10 year old boat, and the motor runs good. It is only Tracker 175 with a 90 hp motor I have seen, most of them only have a 75 hp rating and come with a 60 or 75 hp motor, I'll probably make an offer on it. Also is the 90 hp Mercury Optimax a good engine?
  24. Most of the lakes I fish around here are 750-4,000 acre impoundments. However I will occasionally go down south to fish the bigger lakes like the ones on the Tennessee river system, I am also planning a trip to Santee Cooper in April.
