Just looking for options on how to switch out moving baits quicker. Mostly for use with 1.5/2.5 squarebills, .5 oz lipless, jerkbaits, etc. Man, I have read a TON on here about all the different brands and styles and most importantly it is just IMPOSSIBLE to tell what size to order online for these baits! I have sort of narrowed it down to these offerings from Owner, Decoy, Spro and VMC:

For what I'm looking for which do you think I should go with and which size?

Ive been using Norman speedclips for a while now. Some people complain about them opening up but personally i havent had it happen.

For smaller baits & jerk baits I use the size #1 rated at 33lb strength

For bigger baits I use #2 rated at 46lb

 

 

 

I normally use #1 snaps, I purchased mine on ebay. Less than $2 for a 100 pack. It should be a long time before I have to buy anymore.?

Norman SpeedClips is what I use. they're great, no problems.

I've had the Norman speed clips open up on me a couple of times.  Now clue how it happened but they did.  One time lost the bait, other time the bait came back hanging weird and after looking at it is was half in/half off the clip.  I recommend quality split rings, if you're going t replace the originals and just tie a good knot.   I can tie a decent knot in under a minute most of the time and with my arthritic fingers, I can't work a snap any faster.

Owner hyperweld in 33lb is what I use for squarebills, jerks, lipless etc. I switched from the 26lb after struggling to use them in the winter and have found that the 33lb work just as well and don't seem to "catch" grass as much as I was afraid they would.

I always have 1 rod with a power clip on, everything else is direct tie. 

The first two of your links is what I use. I just bought a pkg of each at Walmart. I would have ordered them from TW but like you I didn’t know what size. So I risked my life today walking in Walmart for $2.50
 

I’ve used Norman Speedclips and liked them but have had them open. 

the 3rd one is close to what i use. i use vmc crankbait snaps which are similar.

What size clip would you recommend for the lures I mentioned?

I just use Eagle Claw (I think?) regular ol' snaps, few diff sizes. Haven't had a problem. I see some better designs out there but haven't used them yet.

They rate those by pound test. I'm guessing 26 lb. I use the smallest I can get.

I did an unscientific test with some VMC crankbait snaps. They open up way under their stated strength. I still use them but keep that in mind when I'm deadlifting a fish by the line. (I have a knee issue that makes it difficult to crouch and lip a fish). Fish over 4 lbs. get lipped even though it hurts.

I only fun fish and have using #2 Duolock for years and recently (last two years) Orvis fly snaps  They are small, feather weight and incredibly strong.

I assume the ones that offer a higher weight capability are larger in size comparatively, correct?

Yes, size goes up with weight rating. 

 

You really won't have any issues with crankbaits, spinnerbaits, moving baits in general. 

Just watch your suspending Jerkbaits as they're sensitive to additional weight and action may be compromised. 

I use the VMC Touch-Lok Snap. #1 is rated at 66lbs. It's small. I haven't had any issues with it opening up.

 I looked at a lot of nets. I'm fishing on foot and walking a lot. Nets are cumbersome and little trout nets really aren't adequate. 

I prefer the small spro style swivels for almost all uses. 

I use Norman Speedclips and Decoy V-Snaps - of the two I like the V-Snaps better because I think they're easier to work with.  I also have tried the Decoy Round Snaps and not a fan - I had one completely open up on me when pulling a hung up lure.

Always

For small ones, the tactical angler micro clips are really good. Rated at 25lb, always fish on line lighter than that.

If I need something heavier the p-line are good - I like the bigger diameter as I think it's less likely to break a knot on heavier impact situations. Example here is on my Chatterbait rod I leave a clip on.

If you get just one, get the TA micros from amazon.
Be aware though, if you are using either of these on crankbaits take the split ring off or you'll go crazy trying to get the clip on.
