So recently I have caught my 8lb PB on a Football Jig with a Fluke on it and when ever I say that people say its weird and shouldn't have worked and as far as i can tell the action in the water looks great Ive caught multiple on it. I just want to know what wrong with it? 

Nothing. Just do your thing. You likely showed that PB fish something different and it worked.

Congrats on your PB. Your fluke & FB jig obviously works. 

It's not traditional. Bass fishing is fun because bass will strike a wide variety of different lures. Tinkering is a big part of bass fishing and your PB liked it, Nothing wrong with that!

It's definitely not something many people do but it's not that far off from the damiki rig that made some noise a couple years ago. If I was gonna fish a fluke on the bottom personally I'd want a lighter weight ball jig head or if you wanted you could do a football swinging head to allow it to move more freely but still maintain the benefits of the football jig. 

Do what works for you, man.  I have found that I catch a whole lot of walleye in my river with bass plastics and an offset EWG hook.  That isn't supposed to happen, either.

You never know how many anglers are doing it, and keeping it a secret.  Just because it's not "standard practice" doesn't mean it won't work. I think you proved that.  Congrats on the PB.

 

I bet a few readers on here will be testing that out this weekend ??

I'd say after a pb he probably wants to keep fishing it like he has been lol. Definitely not conventional but if it is working I'd keep right on fishing it that way! Maybe the reason its working as already stated...because its something different.

Heck maybe the reason it worked is a heavier football head allows LESS motion, could be good in the colder months. 

That’s awesome man. I’ve never tried a fluke on a jig but I do throw a senko as a jig trailer quite often. Either wacky or threaded on. I barely ever see anyone else do it and it works great especially on pressured fisheries.

During the shad spawn, I've always got a white jig rigged with a fluke, Rage Menace vertical, or a 4" grub, all in white.

Around 1990 or 91 I was introduced to a technique a lot of guys were using for river smallmouth. It was a 4.5" Slug-O rigged on a small 1/8oz ball head jig with a 1/0 hook. That tactic is highly effective so it is no surprise to me that the fluke on a football jig works, congrats!!!

No, I don't know of a bass over 3 pounds that I've ever caught on a fluke. It's right there close to a C-rig as one of my least favorite baits to fish.

My brain must be on the fritz. I thought I remembered you saying you caught your PB on a bait you are not too fond of and I thought it was a fluke for some reason.

Caught my personal best on a super fluke. Once the water gets above around 65 degrees and the bass are shallow, it can draw some big bites. I Fish it weightless on an EWG hook.

I personally don't fish it on a jig, but don't see why it would not work.
