Looking to get a designated small swimbait , underspin or jig type rod.. from 1/4 to 3/4 oz .. wondering if you would go with MH/F or M/F .. was looking at the shimano zodias or the new daiwa rebellion .. both look amazing! Thoughts on each.. I know single hooks need more power to set those hooks so.. fishing near some vegetation and wood etc.

MH is going to be best all around, but not great with 1/4 ounce.  I throw small SB with Spinning or Med BC.

I recently got a m/f casting rod. I threw a cronarch mgl on it. I don’t have really heavy cover where I fish this early. It is quickly becoming my favorite setup. T rigs up to a 1/4 and 1/4 heads with a 3.75 rage swimmer. I think you should try it. You’ll like it. 

MH gets my vote too. 

 

if you talking about only 1 rod, I would do MH, but if you going to have more than one, do M only.

Another vote for MH, especially with jig hook baits. I first tried to learn jig/swimjig fishing on a Medium-powered Ugly Stik; the jig aficionados here will LOL at that one. Needless to say I hated jigs until I got an MH baitcaster and realized the error of my ways.

I have a couple Kistler MH's that throw 1/8 - 3/4 oz baits.  One is a F and the other is a MF action.  I use the MF action for medium diving and lipless cranks, and the F for jigs, creatures, and larger soft baits.  They'd be my #1 pick if I had to choose one, and only one, rod to fish.

Yet another vote for MH.......single hooks get MH in my boat.

I was thinking MH but I wanna be able to throw some lighter stuff like 1/4 or maybe 1/8 at the lightest but I usually don’t go under 1/4 oz @Bird @jbsoonerfan @NHBull .. and seeing I only have one Mh /f rod I figure that would be another good all purpose general rod. 

There are some MH that throw lighter baits.....the Loomis MBR'S come to mind

I throw my underspins on a med heavy cranking rod . I noticed when I was using a m/h I would rip it away from them. I have not had a problem since. My magdrafts I throw on my m/h flipping rod 

If you want to cast lighter lures then get a rod whose lure weight recommendations/specs get pretty close to the weight you want to throw.

 

Being a builder I can probably get more options than buying factory rods, and what works best for having a very large range of weights that cast well is a medium power extra fast action blank, like the Point Blanks.  In order to have the power at M or MH the tip AND the action at XF the tip has to be pretty light.  Which means that you are essentially using the tip to cast the lighter lures and the backbone to cast the heavier ones.  This is an oversimplification , but it's true that XF will give a larger weight range of easy casting.

 

Using this logic, if you can find an XF action rod whose lure range gets close to your lightest, it will probably work well.  Might be M or MH power.

 

 

Daiwa and Kistler both make a "light" M/H that seems to target just what you are looking for.
