Lures for bass fishing at night time

Featured Replies

I had no clue that bass are active at night. Honestly I had no clue until about five minutes ago.

So I took to google for what lures to bass fish at night with and saw that a lot folks use spinners, buzzbaits, chatterbaits and top water. What are your go to lures/baits for night time bass? T-Rigs I assume are out?

Colorado bladed spinnerbaits, bladed jigs, jigs, and T rigs.

Occasionally I'll mix in some buzzbaits, topwater, and swimbaits but I try to avoid topwater and especially treble hooks at night.

Dark colors tend to be best, with black and blue or solid blue being my favorites, unless the moon is bright, then I do better with white or natural colors.

The BR site has multiple threads dedicated to night bass fishing, try a simple search.

There are some great threads here.  My passion for night fishing started about 30 years ago with jitterbugs.  I used that and some other top waters for about 10 years...then I started using spinnerbaits and kicked butt.  And a few years later I learned they will hit just about anything at night.

Some of the hardest strikes you will ever get are at night.  And they will literally strike right next to the boat or shore - its honestly a lot of fun!!!

As mentioned there are some GREAT articles here for night fishing.

I caught plenty of bass at night on Texas rig with 10” ribbon worm and my favorite missile bait destroyer. The 4 night bass I caught last week were on Neko Rig Zman ZinkerZ. I have luck with chatterbait at night but never with big Colorado spinnerbait. Jig is also work at night. I try to avoid top water lure unless I have good landing spot and a net.

Night time Bass fishing is a different animal.

The cover of darkness adds so much to it.

One needs to experience it to 'get it'.

Here's some info you might find helpful in advance of your first few nocturnal bass adventures;

Buzzbaits , spinnerbaits , worms and crankbaits are the lures that work well for me . Crankbaits along rip rap is a good combo . I like the old metal lipped Arbogast Mudbug . Wiggle warts do well also but probably any lure that  works during the day will work in the dark .
