A "hold on to bait"?

Featured Replies

I know all the baits we use are just tools for the game. Do you have a plastic or hard bait that isnt made anymore that throw but afraid to loose or the last few plastics of that kind in that bag?

I do not...I know guys are collectors but that's not me...I buy lures to fish with. I wouldn't buy something so rare or expensive that I would be scared to throw it.

Yep, lots!

I only have two packs of the Sportsman’s Products super floater worms left. I have caught more bass on those than any other lure and I’ve told myself I’ll only use the last few if I fish someplace legendary like Okechobee.

Yes and supplies on the Bay are dwindling.  I could tell you but .......

I've got a box of pre-Rap warts that rarely come out of the garage unless it's tournament time.

I'll be really mad at myself when I inevitably lose a Zoom/WEC crankbait...But they were made to catch fish and they do a good job of it so I can't let them sit.  I probably won't be replacing them though since the ones I really like are $80+ now.

Jelly Worms in some of the good colors I like in the 8-9" range are getting super hard to find.

The Rapala Crankin' Rap CRR-3 & CRR-5 model squarebills that were discontinued a few years ago. I see a good amount of the 5's on the auction site but the 3's seam to pop up less and less. I have maybe 12 left between the two right now and I still throw them, but it's always disappointing when I break one off.

I have probably 10 different confidence baits stock piled.  I've been periodically checking the bay for 20 years and pick up the odd replacement as I find them.  I don't buy the ones that have 'rare' in the title because I'm not collecting, I'm fishing. I just zoom on by.  Another one will pop up trust me.

Same with the reels I use.  I recently got a 'new in box' baitcaster I've been looking for for a long time to match my existing pair.  I like to have several of the same for follow up casts on a missed bait.  I have good luck tossing soft plastic after a miss,  and having the same type reel in my hand means no fumbling with the controls.

I have a couple lures that I have caught trophy bass on and I do not fish with those lures since I have them in my lure collection at this moment in time.

Some of the more expensive lures I have I'm afraid to lose from pike bite offs.  Vision 110 jerk baits and jack hammers come to mind.  I could replace them, but I'm just very worried about losing such expensive lures in pike infested waters.

I've got about 8 of the original T1 Titanium Spinnerbaits left too and they are now discontinued and I'm really worried about having a toothy predator destroy them and/or take them.  ?

Oh yeah that would suck.   I forgot about those. Good luck finding replacements for sure.

I too fish with everything I own or at least plan to. If I had something worth a lot I'd sell it. I dont understand the value of things like lures...as well as plenty of other stuff...just the market.  Anything is worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I have plenty of gear without "collecting" it. Got a buddy thats big into it tho he has a room that's just his collection of older valuable fishing gear
