Flourocarbon and palomar knot

Featured Replies

Anyone use the Palomar know with fluorocarbon line? I have heard yes and no,what does this group advise?. And what is considered the best knot for fluorocarbon? Thanks

That’s about the only knot I use to attach lures to the line, with fluoro. Works with my casting rods up to 20lb for pitching, and on my spinning rods down to 6lb. Today I caught well over 50 smallmouth on a drop shot with 8lb fluoro, and never once had any issues with the palomar knot ( I did retie some, but that was due to zebra mussels etc.). Just make sure you don’t twist things up when you’re tying it, and use lots of lubrication (spit), so it doesn’t burn the line.

I only use a Palomar on braid for certain moving baits.
Check a previous thread titled About Sunline Sniper FC.
There are many posts about what folks use.

I use the Pitzen for all lines.

Lots of posts covering this one.  If tied properly, zero issues with a Palomar and fluoro. The above mentioned Pitzen, along with its near twin (SDJ) are also solid knots for fluoro.

Yes and I use lots of spit to keep it from burning.

I use floro with all my plastics and have for ten years.  Always use a palomar knot with floro never had a problem with the knot.

A uni for me for every kind of line.  Never a failure.

When tied properly a Palomar knot will work with monofilament, copolymores, fluorocarbon, & braid.

That goes for nearly every knot "if tied properly".

If it ain't perfect, it ain't good enough.

I have been using the clinch knot for years with FC and have had great luck.  I tend to use the palomar knot for braided line.
