Just got a call from the wife.... she's heading to her parents for the weekend, taking all three kids with her.  It's on....

I don't have any kids but I have a similar reaction when my lady leaves. She just went camping for a week with her brother and sister and I lived the straight up bachelor life. Fishing whenever I want...eating cheesy potatoes and grilled ribeye or fried pork chops...drinking a few to many brews. I love her very much...but every now and then I need a break and have to live like a caveman.

I love my wife and I love my kids.  I've gotten to do quite a bit of fishing this year- all of it with my oldest.  He's 7- started the year with bobbers and worms and now he's casting crankbaits and swim jigs.  Landed a 27" northern last week and a few 15" bass and he's loving it.  It's awesome being able to get out with him all the time, but his attention span is short, so 3 hours is about the max that we are out.  I'm excited to be able to get out and just fish all day long...

When that conversation happen:

wife: I'm going to my parents for the weekend

me: I'll miss you (inside though be calm don't scream hitch the boat up yet) 

Oh man.....I’m heading over by you! Enjoy the “you” time uninterrupted and take it all in!

So... how was day one of the weekend?

 

I was telling myself the same thing all week - figured I'd be out on the kayak. Then my foot blew up with gout (just after I nearly recovered from it that goes back to mid August) early Thursday morning when I was sleeping, so there goes that idea. It's quite depressing, really

Small bass and lots of pike-pretty good size ones too.  I spent a lot of time working with a frog/toad....a lot of action but struggled getting them to the boat..... I fished for about 10 hours between friday evening and today so that was great...
