Have you guys ever had this happen to your baitcaster before where the bottom of the reel chips? I never did this on purpose it happened naturally.

I've never had that happen. I'd be worried about line abrasion and losing a fish or a bait.

Something is wrong with this situation.

 

I suggest taking or mailing the reel to a professional who can look at the problem and come up with a solution.

 

I have seen the line do this to reels but it happens only when the line is not going through the baitcasters line guide.

Ouch.. that’s one way to shave down reel weight. All kidding aside would love to see a front shot. But wow looks like it been happening since day one 

Yeah..that ain't right.  That looks like line grooving rather than "chipping".

First, find out what's causing that.  Second, patch that up (or replace the reel).  Maybe try so mold some PC-7 in there, or mold some pieces out of a polymer clay like Sculpey to fit (press them into the grooves to get the back side and then cut and smooth them around the top and front to make exactly keyed pieces), bake them in the oven, and then attach them with super glue.  

 

Whatever's causing that isn't good and will probably lead to more problems, further down the line.

I did something similar to first gen StradicCI4, but I know what caused it.  To avoid knots in the braid I from reeling in slack line I would pin the line against the blank with my finger to put tension on it.  As the roller would go from 12 o'clock to 9 o'clock the tension would cause the line to come off the roller and rub against the bail arm.  I didn't realize it was to late.  The braid had worn a rough channel in the bail arm. 

I think its probably line wear.  Did you ever use braid on that reel?  I would think fluro or mono could do it too, but not without damaging the line itself.  Do you use the reel as hook keeper?

What reel is this and rod?  

 

Maybe some more pics of the whole set up?  Especially zoomed out so we can see the reel and the reel seat, and one of the first guide on the rod.

i can only guess what the rod's guides look like, after seeing that reel.

   Look carefully at the line coming off the spool. It's aimed down, as if guided under the support bar. Line path is wrong. Is line even going through the levelwind eye, or possibly under the eye bracket?      jj

based on the appearance of the grooves (not chips, notice that these are grooves oriented parallel with the direction of the line) it has to be that the line was not going through the line guide for a long time.  Or possibly holding the line down as mentioned above, but not sure how or why someone would want to do it.  

 

This is not caused by a defective reel.  Normally the line would not even contact this area.

Just as jimmyjoe said, the line goes above that bar, not below it.

Had a Curado 50E that did this five years ago out of no where with mono on the reel, so i just quickly replaced the part.  Fortunately on the 50E that was easy to do.  New part never did It and I still have the reel.

Is the line causing the chipping? The line shouldn't be touching that area...

I could be wrong, but it looks like the line is not going through the nose guide.

The reel is a Abu Garcia Revo SX with a RT3 BPS brand Bionic Blade Rod. The guides are fine and the reel casts fine with no fraying at all. I caught a 4 pounder 2 days ago with this setup I was just wondering what was causing this If someone can tell me how to patch it that would be great but it casts a mile and I still jack fish with it.

I don't know that you can patch it but you can fix it.  This reel is set up incorrectly.  Your line appears to be going under the support bar and not through the line guide.  How this is even working is kinda beyond me but it's easily fixable.  The grooves are most likely there forever but if you fix the line shouldn't cause an issue at all as the line shouldn't be touching that part of the reel.

Any front pictures with line coming out..i.wouldnt worry about fixing it it doesnt bother anything fish dont care..
