Needing a new rod for deeper cranking

Featured Replies

Hi guys so I am looking at picking up a rod for cranking for around $200 or less. I am looking for a longer rod that can throw cranks up to 1oz. I am going to be using cranks like the Megabass Deep X 300, DD22, 5xds, and 6xds ect. I was looking at the Powell Endurance 755 CB Glass/Comp. I have one other Powell rod and liked it so much I wanted to go with that brand first, but before making the plunge I wanted to see if anyone has used this rod, if it works well for this, and if there is something you would recommend over that for me to look into?

Thanks!

I'm stretching your budget but I would take a look at the Dobyns Champion 805 CB and or the 805 CB Glass.  I have the glass version which is a composite, Paul Mueller model.  At least research these models.

You hear a lot of guys say this, including me, but you really don't need an expensive crank rod.

I use a bunch of old Wright-McGill Rick Clunn fiberglass rods to crank with.  They were about $80 new a long time ago.  When Dick's quit selling them, they were 2 for $50.  I can handle a 6XD with them with a little effort.  That's really too much for those old soft rods, but they are wonderful  to fish with.

I'm sure all you big money spenders will flame me, but I'd buy BPS Cranking Sticks.  Unfortunately, the new ones have that crappy handle.  I liked the old ones better.  Have a couple I use for buzz baits and swim jigs.  Super rods.

Other than that, you'll have to try and see what you like.  All the rods mentioned above are good rods and would serve you well, but may not suit you and the way you fish.  I'd buy the Powell and try it if I were going to spend that much.

Why not try the Endurance 7116 CB? It will do everything that you want to do right now, and it'll give you room to grow. Just a thought.    jj

Post a WTB in our Flea Market for a Lamiglas SR705R. Several guys own them and might be

willing to sell one for around $175. I consider this the perfect rod for deep divers, big topwater

and heavy lures.

The St. Croix Bass-X 7'2" Med/Hvy-Moderate for $110 is excellent!
