Shorter rod to skip chatterbaits

Featured Replies

I currently use a 7'3 posion adrena and an aldebaran mgl to throw jackhammers. I believe it's one of the best combos for that I've seen albeit it a potentially just slightly a tad too fast. This works for me fishing heavy grass areas. I just recently bought a p5 tachyon shaft for skipping worms and jigs under docks but that is likely way too heavy and fast for a chatterbait. Do you guys have any suggestions for a shorter rod to do this?

I have that exact same adrena and I completely quit using it as a skipping rod myself.

My go-to skipping rod for 3/8 oz chatter baits is now the 6’10”MH Falcon expert. It’s perfect for me and I rarely don’t get a perfect skip out of it.

For 1/2 oz chatter baits I use the 6’10”H Falcon expert. It’s a sweet rod for that purpose but nothing tops the MH with a 3/8 oz setup. It’s magical.

Zolo Skipper?  I like the couple Zolo rods I have.  The little I've read about the new Experts has been quite positive.

G. Loomis GLX 803C.....I throw chatterbaits on it and have used it to skip them a few times.  It has worked great so far.    It's only 6'8'' and it has a pretty fast tip so in order to load it properly I roll cast the baits I skip.

I recently bought a 6'3 M Fast daiwa tatula just because I got it for 110, and I was intrigued by the short length.  I'm starting to love this little rod.  Works like a dream for skipping docks..its a bit stiff for a medium ( like most daiwa rods) but with a 1/4 oz and up jig or t rig it's perfect.   Its gonna pull double duty as a Jerkbait rod.  I was skipping 1/4 oz kinky beavers on it the other day...I like the old school super short length...its like I can get a better angle when roll skipping and easier to skipping out In front of myself.  Haven't put it to the test In areas with alot hydrilla yet.  It will probably be used in light cover.   I have 12 lb sniper on it with a new daiwa tatula 100

Had this rod many moons ago and also found the tip a bit fast for skipping. Seemed to give an inconsistent release for me where the bait would sometimes end up a good bit to the right of where I was aiming.

I will give this rod a lot of credit though for convincing me I needed shorter rods to master skipping.

The Expert 6’10 heavy Is a great 3/8 chatterbait rod.

The old Falcon Cara 6”6 all around med heavy .... is perfection. The 6”10 head turner is a spinnerbait/chatterbait casting rod ... not as good . Plus the 6”10 is a heavy action.

I  have a Team Daiwa S green handle 6'3" topwater/twitching rod. Just curious if this is the same rod or if it is more of a target spinnerbait/buzz bait rod. The TD rod is MH/Fast with a very soft tip.

Same rod that I use for my everyday rod for bladed jigs, a 6' 9" H/F Hammer Rods Micro.

I missed the fish, but check the skip.

I use an older GLX 785 CBR. 6'6 MH, parabolic action but not a pool noodle, enough to fling 3/8 and 1/2oz chatterbaits in close quarters.
