Opinion on power pole color

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

Finally taking delivery of my Sportsman 214 tournament and wondering what color poles to get. I’ve decided on 10’ blades and have a black th marine hydraulic jack plate. Can’t decide white or black ?‍♂️

Mostly freshwater fishing and on occasion saltwater.

Thanks

I posted in the bait monkey first so now it’s an old toy haha.

I was sold on black but after seeing the white on a boat today it’s making a tough decision.

Id personally go black with the boat being white. White on white may be too much....white lol. Seriously tho either should look good but id go black

Go with either color then get the opposite color power pole covers. Then your good for whatever mood your in.

I assume you have Lowrance electronics since you are talking Power Poles instead of Talons.   Color wise black for me.

White, power poles are an eyesore. Better IMO if it blends with the hull.

All Garmin.

I like the look of the blades better.

I have black ones and they are hard as heck to keep clean. They water spot very quickly.

*Disclaimer....I don't take a break at lunch and wax my boat and then wax it again when I pull it out and wax it again when I get home, so I am not one of those guys.

While I think the black poles would be slightly more aesthetically pleasing, that would only be true when they are very clean, which is impossible to do. As stated above, they water spot terribly and even a wipe down immediately after getting off the water every time is not enough to keep them from looking gross. I don’t think the white will show the water spots and water line as bad (but should still be wiped after ever take out).

I would pick the white color.

The question I have is "Why do you want power poles at all?"   Are you going to use them or do you believe they make you look better at the ramp?   We have been fishing without power poles for millennia.  Now every bass boat has to have two of them.  If you're fishing a tidal flat I see the benefit, otherwise  I think they look hideous, they're in the way and they're something else that can break.  Did I mention the cost?   School me...

Honestly I’ve never had them before but my buddy keeps telling me in the shallows I won’t spook the fish as much with the poles versus just spot lock. I do see a benefit of using them when putting the boat in the water and taking it out. I have poor money management ?‍♂️

I have fished with many professional bass tournament angers.  Maybe it's a Florida thing, but I have never seen one use a power pole for anything except holding a boat next to a dock. Back when I was guiding, power poles would have come in handy when shiner fishing instead of staking out with two push poles.  When fishing with artificial lures, not so much.

So many things we do today are driven by marketing.  Today, everyone wants a wrapped boat that you can see coming a mile away.  Back in the day, we painted our names on the side of our boats in big letters.  When I was fishing tournaments, I didn't want anglers to know where I am fishing.  I preferred invisibility.
