Is this a zebra mussel?

Featured Replies

Sorry this if this is the wrong thread, but discovered this during the serious lake drain down. I googled photos of zebra mussels and the pictures vary greatly. There has been very few reports a zebra mussels in the lake (one) and if this is I want to make sure to alert the department of environmental protection

I agree, those look like clams.  Mussels have a more elongated shell:

Looks like yours are Corbicula or Asian clam. Still an invasive, but very common and widespread. We have them in most reservoirs here. Not the same as zebras or quaggas.

No, their crushers can't handle them.  Drum can eat them though. They're fun, unless you're in a tournament and think you have a state record smallmouth :D

Thanks!  Yes..these muscles are everywhere.   The Gobi is in New hampshire lakes i think?    Last year I had so much fun with  smallies in New hampshire, wolvesboro area.   FAT Smallies!   I was finesse (med light Spinning)  8 lb mono straight with trick worms fished like a jerk bait.   Off the kayake at a point I had 5 in a Row,  suspended action the drop and and chartreuse with metallic flakes.   My hometown ponds are super pressured.  So going to New hampshire on a weekday with no boats flying around is just magic.   I assume the Gobi has helped..

I live in hudson.     And fort meadow is the closest "big" lake to my house.      It is super pressured , everybody goes there bombing lures, but even with the pressure I can sneak my kayake out there and finesse LM toads....   ? ... also tons of crappy boats will mess with fishing in the summer.  Haha.. but I can leave my house and be fishing in 7 minutes with kayake in my truck.  If you are up for SUN up  or epic night kayake fishing..   send me a message and we can meet..   only sucky thing is parking.   U gotta walk a quarter mile to the dock from parking...      we used to park at a restaurant but they no longer allow parking because of lettering poop heads..
