What line for a plug knocker?

Featured Replies

I bought a plug knocker last year, and have yet  to use it. Now it occurs to me, which is a preferred line to use with it? I have a "sawed off"( 3')  spinning rod, with an old bait caster to mount it on. Do you guys prefer Spectra, braided dacron or what to utilize these things? What pound test? I am avoiding the cheap deals on Amazon, as the line reviews are all over the map. What do most of you guys use?

I've got a rig similar to what Tander is showing.   It is a 50' dog leash with the plug knocker attatched.   It is easy to keep handy and  who knows how many lb test that dog leash is - in my case It has always been enough.  In my case there was a learning curve to learning how to deploy it quickly without tangling in rigs and other stuff lying around the deck, but not so much that it is an issue.

I use Muzzy 200 lb (25 yards) bowfising line on a old round BPS reel.

550 Parachute cord does the trick for me, I don't gut it but you probably could to save some bulk and still have a very durable lead.

 Dog leash.

I'm using some old yellow 144# mason's line from Home Depot.

Harbor Freight has some $6.99...
