USPS - Beware!!!

I just remembered the most blatant example of 'shoddy service'.

One year, Yule Cards sent out the same day - one to my parents who live in Golden Valley, MN - the other to the wife's mother who lived in Orlando, FL at the time. Both with just 1st Class Forever stamps on them.

Card to mother-in-law arrived in 3 days (1500 miles)

Card to my parents took 2 weeks! (15 miles)

Wait...what?

I dont understand how USPS could be "operating in the red". Literally any business should be making MORE money today because the fact that everyone buys online now so shouldn't more business mean more profits for the USPS? Like 20 years ago I could understand them going under but NOW they gotta be moving more packages than they ever did so should be making more cash.  They have to be managed by complete idiots to lose money despite MORE business than ever.

Name one government dominant activity that is efficient.

Look further up the food-chain. Their prices are set by law, they keep saying they don't make enough money on what they're legally allowed to charge, but the morons 'upstairs' keep voting down the price increases that could make USPS at least break even.

A typical case of keep raising the budget because we can't control spending.

I placed one order to a company on Monday for two items. I got one of those items today by USPS in my mailbox.

The other item from the same order was also delivered today by UPS to my front door.

Crazy.

The postal service is supposed to be self-sustaining.  They aren't supposed to be receiving taxpayer money even though they are a federal agency.  They've received a number of bail outs (which is taxpayer money) over the years so that is what I meant when I used the term "operating in the red."  If they didn't get a bail out, they'd go under.

I sold a reel to a member here via USPS. Took almost a week and a half to get to him. Really drove me nuts because I consider guys on here like family. Granted, the weather last week affected things. Funny thing, though. I bought a reel that was shipped USPS from CA and it was here in no time.

My fingers are crossed. :)
