BPS Pro Qualifier 2 or Abu Garcia Revo X?

Featured Replies

Was at Bass Pro the other day and they have both the PQ2 Reel and the Revo X marked down from $99 to $79.  What’s the better deal.  Looking to buy 3 reels in the $100 price range.  Also the Carbonlite 2 was marked down from $179 to$114.

Would any of these deals be something worth jumping on?

I would get the Daiwa Fuego over those two reels. $85 on Amazon.

If you don’t like the Fuego, I would get the Pro Qualifier 2 over the Revo X because it has a dual braking system with both centrifugal and magnetic brakes. Both reels are made by Doyo.

As stated above, they are very similar to each other.  Personal preference would be the Shimano SLX at that price point.  All around better reel (not that the others may be bad) but it's the best bang for the buck.

Also, I am not fond of BPS's branded reels in general.  I have worked on a few for a fishing friend and it was not the best experience.

Aluminum Revo X frame I had to replace.  ?

You mean Shimano SLX?  :)

I’ve had my Revo X winch for 2 seasons so far using for mid to larger crank baits and haven’t had any issues so far but with that said although I don’t own the pro qualifier I have reels with dual brakes including a carbonlite 2.0 also 2 seasons  and I really enjoy the ability to dial it in with the dual braking system.

Yes sir.  I have two fingers that are not what they use to be (surgeries) and I think much faster than I type.  I will fix it.....  Thanks

A couple of years back I had purchased a pair of Pro Qualifier 2's and initially thought they were a good deal.  Then after use and comparing them head to head with a Revo S, my initial enthusiasm waned.  Especially with lighter baits, the Revo S is heads & tails better.  I can't speak for the Revo X, for I haven't used it.

I own a few BPS branded reels, including Carbonlite 2 spinning reels and a 5 year old JM baitcaster.  After years of comparison, I believe that BPS falls short on their reels compared to Shimano, Diawa, Abu Garcia, etc.

However, that doesn't necessarily carry over to their rods.  Two of my favorite rods are the BPS Crankin' stick and the Carbonlite 2.0 spinning rods.  Maybe it is due to the inherent differences in the technologies used to build a reel versus those used to build a rod.  Whatever the case, I have now chosen to match the BPS rods I own the other brand reels.

The PQ2's aren't anywhere as good as the original PQ's.  And I hate my Revo I have.  I'd look at some Lew's reels in the price those are.  I've had much much better luck with my Lew's reels.

I have had the opposite experience.  love Revo's and hated the one Lew's I tried.

My Revo S started whining about 2 months after I got it and the bearings were shot.

I have had really good luck with Bass Pro Reels. Garcia not so much unless it is one of there Ambassadors. I like the Ambassador for Texas rig and jigs.

I second the SLX at $100 apiece at BPS, or the Fuego on Amazon.
