Favorite texas rig weights for bank fishing

Featured Replies

What's everyone's favorite texas rig weight size for bank fishing?

For me I usually use 3/16oz or 1/4oz if it's windy or I want to keep it on the bottom. I personally love fishing a pitboss or rage craw on the 3/16oz size in the summertime, something about that slow fall and the flapping action drives the bass nuts.

90% of the time, none. Either from the bank or my inflatable boat. If I do add weight, normally 3/16 oz is the heaviest I use. But I’m only fishing 8’-10’ waters.

1\8 or 3\16

I start with 1/8 and go up from there if I need to.

I use the Texas rig  a lot, rarely do I go over 3/16. But, I do add a colored bead sometimes. If I use a magnum worm, I won't use any weight most of the time, as most hits occur on the fall.

Could be 1/8 oz and up to 1/2 oz depending on conditions, and which bait I'm using.

I like 1/16 - 1/8- and 3/16. Sometimes I'll go to 1/4, but I've done better with the lighter weights.

On the shore I will try to go 1/8, less or weighless most of the time unless I have a reason to bomb cast (a 5" senko with 1/4 casts pretty well)

As light as wind, current and the depth you're fishing will allow. But I have from 1/8-1/2 bullet weights in the bag. I prefer tungsten when I peg the sinker because it's smaller. You can force a fish's mouth open with a larger weight. Lately I've not been pegging my T rigs and I'm using 1/4 oz. lead. 3/16-1/4 is the go-to.

I didn't believe when I started fishing jigs that they would bite a 1/2 oz. and hold on to it. I was wrong. The big ones will try to take it back from you even after they feel resistance.

Brass n glass to 1/4 oz., tungsten 3/8 oz.
