I was at Lowe's today to pick up a few things and came across this silicone tray set (they had just unpacked it).  

 

I have on more than one occasion dropped a screw or part and went crazy looking for it.  This today was a big help on tearing down my new Chronarch and keeping things organized.   If you work on reels, it is well worth the $30 for these things.  I can't recommend them enough.

I like it.  The other silicone sets I looked at were over $45, some around $100. 

I prefer dropping another screw that’s the same size on the floor to make it easier to find the one I just dropped.

I'm cheap. You know how some station wagons and SUVs have a retractable luggage cover in the back? My work table cover is the lined piece of dark gray vinyl I cut off of the luggage cover.

 

What makes me cheap is that it's from a 1986 Subaru dual-range 4WD wagon I used for surf fishing for 14 years until the front sub frame assemblies completely rusted out. I'm still trying to get my money's worth out of it.

I use cafeteria trays lined with a terrycloth.  They are like mobile work spaces letting me work on a few reels at a time.  The terrycloth is great in the event a screw or small part drops, it keeps it from bouncing off into the far reaches of the shop.  I can disassemble, throw parts in the ultrasonic cleaner, put that tray on the shelf, grab another tray and get going on another reel while the cleaner is running.  Cafeteria trays are inexpensive and so is a bag of terrycloths.
