What I mean is, I’ve noticed on YouTube that some personalities show off fishing a swim jig in a T Rig fashion by bumping/hopping it off the bottom. They don’t really elaborate what type of jig they use or at least the personalities I’ve seen don’t. So is it a football head type of jig or just any type of jig?

 

T-Rigging is my absolute favorite way to fish for bass and I would love to be able to use a jig in that manner.

I think I fish a jig and t rig the same already. Don’t worry about what kind of jig it is, just fish it like a t rig no matter what kind

That’s basically what I have been doing but I haven’t had any luck at all. I figured a more specific type of jig would make some difference but I wasn’t sure.

Type of jig, to me, matters more as related to the cover. Arkie style jigs work for just about anything. The streamline head of a swim jig is what I like to use when fishing shallow shoals with fast current that is choked with grass for miles. That’s because it’s about all that will come through the river grass without getting hung 

I've had a lot of luck using a swim jig like this when the fish don't want a straight retrieve. The key, I think, is to use a soft paddletail that gives as much action as possible while falling. Second, I make much bigger hops thanI would with a craw type jig/T-rig. It's honestly more like yo-yoing a lipless than hopping a jig.

I like the Siebert Brush jig... streamlined shape is good for swimming and it stands up on the bottom well.  Also comes in 1/4 oz

I did pick up some of those strike king jigs and trailers that come in the little plastic boxes at Walmart. Got two 1/2oz PB&J jigs and two white 3/8oz jigs. Maybe they will produce.

I'm trying to work out the difference between a Ned t-rig and a shakeyhead...

In the surf, we had jig heads and bucktails, and they were jig heads and bucktails no matter the style or weight...  

If you want a T-Rig esque swim jig, try the Mesu Swim Raptor jig. The jig is designed to be Texas rigged, its got a nice wobble to it, and no weed guard!

Before joining this site I thought of a T-rig/Texas rig having a worm hook with the hook inserted into the worm nose and reinserted into the body to make it weedless and having a sliding bullet weight. After lots of debate about the sliding bullet weight the consensus on this site is no sliding weight is needed for a T-rig.

Now add “jig” to the mix, what is a T-rigged swim jig?    

The presentation is T-rigged, you need a weight to bottom hop it. If the weight is pegged I think it’s a Florida rig. 

The technique is how you choose to cast and/or retrieve the rig. It’s your choice how you choose to fish.

I agree with what Tom was saying as well, but this is something that has slayed for me the last week.....3/4oz dirty jigs california swim jig with a r2s dwalker 120.  Completely stolen from matt allen, but it's opened up new depths to me with a swim jig presentation.  I can ride the break down into 10-12' much better and keep the tail waggin and the head shaking, giving me more and bigger bass.
