Fishing gear that has surpassed my expectations

Featured Replies

Eagle Claw Trokar hooks. Recently switched over for all my wacky and drop-shot rigs. Great penetration and holding power.

Shimano Sienna spinning reel. Hard to beat for 30 bucks

x2 on this reel. It's a great ultralight reel for me! And my Regal LT is a very good reel for 60 bucks! It's smooth, casts well, and has pretty good drag! It's good on my Bass X, which performs as expected.

I won't be specific on brands but when I first got back into fishing I bought $60-$70 combos and wondered why anyone needed expensive rods.  When I bought my first expensive rod I was blown away by the difference in feel and sensitivity.

Before anyone chimes in, YES, I know you can catch fish with less expensive gear.

Surpassed...Abu Garcia C3 to throw large swimbaits.  I figure I will be fishing with that thing when I die.

Mine are:

1. Ultrex (Spot Lock is a game changer)

2. Shimano SLX DC's (Very forgiving system especially when skipping)

Diawa Ardito travel rods.--  I use them even when I don't travel.

Diawa BG spinning reel.--  Shimano fan for 40 years, but this reel compelled me to fish a Diawa product for the first time since1976.

Acadamy Sports H2O series crankbaits. -- Prefer their square bills over others twice the cost.

6th Sense crankbaits  Like them all, especially the mine mag square bill.

Reaction Innovations Skinny Dipper-- I use them for jig tailers, Texas rig, A rig, weighted hook, underspin, flipping tees, and punching mats.

Rapala DT. 6 and DT 10--  Fragile, but catch fish when others wont.

Spro Rock Crawler--  Expensive but worth the cost.

Rebel Jumping Minnow.  My favorite walk the dog bait, at any price.

My $20 Bass Pro telescopic spinning rod.

I have caught so many fish with this thing. Fits in my backpack. I put on a Trion reel and it's a workhorse. Have had no issues with it. Actually I haven't collapsed it in awhile, it's in the rod rack in my van as a "regular" rod.

Not my favorite rod, especially casting, but an awesome value.

Culprit Fat Max, Gambler TZ Swimmer.........so far this year these 2 bait are responsible for 85% of my catches......
