EGO Blackwater Trout Net

 

Only 11” deep, I really like it but I’ve read that you want a bass net to be 16” deep minimum. Wasn’t sure if that was for largies or smallies. If not how big does it need to be, any recommendations? I have been catching some bigger fish in the 17-19” range lately, and so have decided to get a net.  Thanks!

Might be OK depending on the size of the fish

and if you can get a hand on it right away to control it.

However, I'll tell you what will not be OK . . .

Definitely that red area down the middle looks like a mess if a treble gets in there.

That net is an automatic nope. Not the right size or shape and thAt strip of material in the middle will slow it down in water. Already mentioned, but the main main reason I use a net is trebles, and that thing will be a mess with them. 
 

Get a Frabil Bearclaw or a Leverage Landing net.

How about this? I am mostly kayak fishing and wading and so wanted a shorter handle.

I’m aware, I’m telling you I mostly kayak and wade fish and wanted a shorter handle. Is there no option for kayak/wade fishermen?

How do you mount the bearclaw? Looks like it would be tough to store, I was kinda looking for something I could drop in a flush mounted rod holder behind my seat.

Yeah that one looks good, does it need to be at least 13” deep? I was also looking at this one, only 11.8” deep though.

Is there a minimum depth that the net needs to be for smallmouth? Like is 11” too shallow?

The bearclaw? It literally says 11” deep on both the link you posted and Frabill’s website. Are you sure, can you link me to the one you have? Because that looks like the most solid one-handed net.

Dude, I measured the one I have. Try a google search for it or check Frabil's site.

Did you not read what I wrote? I did check Frabill’s site, it only offers the 11” deep one. They either shortened it or no longer offer that version.

Those are imperial inches.  Seriously, mine is brand new. It's deep enough and works fine. It even works for steelhead that are bigger and livelier than smallies.

Interesting. Are they really imperial inches? If not why does it say 11? Sorry just trying to figure out if these nets are all mislabeled.

I use a Ego S1 wade net in my Kayak. I’m pretty sure the handle is about 11” long.  There are a couple hoop sizes and mine is plenty deep enough for bass.  It is this one   https://www.egofishing.com/products/wade/kryptek-medium-rubber-net/. And it has rubberized nets so good with hooks.  Very happy with it. 

I bought this net. Greg Blanchard ues it on his yak but he extended the handle with PVC.

Get this one and be done. It's a perfect kayak fishing net.

The flat bottom allows fish to lay flatter inside the net. Also these nets can stretch for bigger fish.

It says bag depth only 11” as well. Is this really deep enough for a 19” smallie? How much does it really stretch?

just go fishing and see if ya like it! If no give to someone else and try another. 
 

I prefer kayak fishing without a net. If I devoted this much brain power to selecting a net I would never make it out the front door to go fishing
