Fluoro Leaders

Featured Replies

I've read that lots of folks use a fluoro leader with braid.  6lb seems to be the norm but what ia a desired leader length, 3-4 ft, 6, 7 feet?

There is a mild debate about how long of a leader assuming that a leader should be used.  Most people fall in the category of "as long as you can without the connection knot entering the spool".  Others use leaders as long as 20'+.

Most of the lakes I fish are gin clear so a Flouro leader adds confidence.

Personally use 15lb power pro to 8 lb Sunline sniper with Alberto knot.

Main thing I've found " learned " is to keep the knot out of the reel for better casting.

Another words, if you have a 7ft rod, a 6 ft leader would suffice.

Why a FC leader with braid?? Monkey see monkey do.

Start with a leader 100’  length.

OK thanks for all the input, walleyecrazy appears to have the easiest solution!

Yeah as someone new to bass fishing in general, I lean on the experience of those with more of it, that's kind of why I'm here.  If that's Monkey see monkey do then so be it.

Just trying to learn

The advantages of a fluorocarbon leader are visibility, abrasion resistance and the ability

to break-off when needed.

I actually do this method with my baitcasting reels, ie braid backing to fluoro mainline

my spinning reels will get a decently long leader 10-15 feet, the knot doesn't affect the spinning reel.

my baitcasting reels will rarely get a leader.  if I do use a FC leader on the few braid setups I have, it'll be for a flipping setup, where the knot never enters the rod guide.  more often then "knot", straight FC or straight braid.
