  1. Always used Penn reel grease, ReelX for oil and Cal's for drag. Never had a reason to switch.
  2. @zpelletier Tackle Warehouse Revo SX Gen 4 $120 Revo STX Gen 4 $104 Revo SX Gen 4 $88 Revo X Gen 4 $80 CA 80 $68 (HSL and XS)
  3. You didn't raise no fool!!!
  4. If the Sahara's haven't changed too much then an option would be to buy another one and keep this one for parts. As others mentioned the money saved from attempting to repair it gets you into a new reel.
  5. Curious, how do you weigh a 7ft rod accurately?
  6. Spinning 2 St. Croix, Fenwick, Pflueger and 2 Berkleys Casting 2 Dobyns, 1 Falcon, 1 Powell Fly Rods 4 Fenwick, 2 each St. Croix, TFO, Redington and one Cabelas One thing surprised me reading through the replys was how many list Fenwicks, they don't seem to be a popular rod today but many of us still have them. One of my Fenwick fly rods is a 50+ year old glass rod I still fish, real sweet and looks brand new!
  7. Seems like every kid back then had a Mitchell reel. I still have a 300 and the smaller 308, cleaned up and re-lubed they still work well.
  8. Picked up a Mojo Bass 610 MLXF Finesse spinning rod and a Powell Diesel 6104 Glass CB rod.
  9. I made wooden ceiling racks similar to above for my basement, they work well but I quickly outgrew them and had to add more. How does that happen???
  10. F-Source has BF sale going, 25% off St. Croix and various others.
  11. I know they greatly downsized their fly rod offerings the last couple of years. They used to carry 6-8 different lines but now only have two, Imperial and Mojo. I don’t think that’s an indication of them doing poorly, I read somewhere that the lions share of their business is in the spinning and casting arena.
  12. I like to clean up old reels and get them serviceable again, baitcasters, spinning and fly reels. After a good cleaning I use ReelX oil, Penn grease and Cal’s drag grease where necessary. All highly recommended, easily attainable, inexpensive and work well. I will also use the small bottles of manufacturers oil for reels if supplied.
  13. When you check out it is full price, when you get the email receipt it reflects the discount.
  14. TW sale order, picked up Daiwa reel and some bait monkey items. Got the reel with the discount!!!
  15. So for brands such as Daiwa or Shimano you wouldn’t know if you received the TW discount until after you paid for it? Is that correct?
  16. Very interesting, Yo Zuri and Sufix Advanced always get such glowing reviews.
  17. Seems there are some Falcon Bucoo’s on sale for $69.99 over at SO. Looks like a nice deal.
  18. Agreed and I also have the older version. Use it for fly reels, spinning and now BC’s. Works great!
  19. Other than night crawlers, I think the first lure I ever used was a pheobe, on a spinning rod with a Mitchell 300 reel. What kid didn’t have a Mitchell reel back then???
  20. I have a Sahara in the 2500, it is a very nice reel.
  21. I fly fish as well, and it’s the same thing with fly gear. Sure you can buy an $800 rod, and obviously some do, but there are probably at least a few dozen great rods in the $100-150 range. Same for reels. So as stated by many already I like to buy the best that my budget allows and usually on sale or even used if well cared for.
  22. OK thanks for all the input, walleyecrazy appears to have the easiest solution! Yeah as someone new to bass fishing in general, I lean on the experience of those with more of it, that's kind of why I'm here. If that's Monkey see monkey do then so be it. Just trying to learn
  23. I've read that lots of folks use a fluoro leader with braid. 6lb seems to be the norm but what ia a desired leader length, 3-4 ft, 6, 7 feet?

Thanks all, this is a great site and I’ve already learned a whole lot. Very enjoyable!
  25. Yeah, I have seen some of their posts in various forums here and there, I was just wondering if it would be nice to have a dedicated place for them to post to the general population.
