recipes? I was looking into sitting my baits in some form of scent. I thought coffee grounds could work, or even a wet garlic powder/garlic salt mix. What do you guys use? What have you found to work well? 

1 part anise

2 part baby oil

100% pure anise oil for scent and with glycerin for lubrication . Fresh garlic adds scent, but it can go rancid if not fresh or in a bag too long.

I tried 100% at first years ago but fir some reason got better results mixing it

You can mix 100% pure anise oil, but most grocery store cooking anise oil is deluded with alcohol. 

Glycerin has a sweet taste and odorless.

okay I appreciate this, will try some of this, will also add garlic. That is one thing I do like about scents as well is they kinda lubricate your lure and let it slide through stuff to a certain extent. thankyou so much for this recipe, have been looking but no results!

First ya ain't gonna find 100% anise oil at a grocery store, it comes from a pharmacy. What most stores carry is essential oil which barely classifies as oil. 

 

I buy Baitmate Classic Spray & add 1/2 oz anise oil.

mixed cooking oil and fresh garlic and let them blend. 

thats the two I am doing

but for bass ill use merchandise in market. JJ magic for garlic and another jell and oil

The Zoom U Tail worm is one of my favorite worms. I had a post last season where is was letting them set in coffee grinds. Thought it would work out well. I don’t think it helped, certainly did not draw more strikes. In my case right out of the bag, whatever the factory has on them seem to work better. 
 

I was going to buy the KVD coffee spray and thought I’d experiment first. I never did buy it.

Interesting, good to know not to waste time with coffee grounds and make a big mess and get the others in the household fired up ??

It can go bad quickly, but will last a few days and NOTHING works better. 

Olive oil, strained bacon grease, garlic powder (not garlic salt), bunker oil to taste.

You want the consistency of light grease. Put the olive oil in last to adjust viscosity.

The coffee grounds was easy and mess free. Grinds and a zip lock bag. To me it did not impregnate the plastic/rubber. Was not strong. Maybe I should have brewed up some of the U Tails. Sounds like fun and an interesting experiment. Good luck.

Before Baitmate it was Fish Formula.

 

I've used this for 45+ years & it still works.

Catt this is all I’ve really ever used during the same length of time. 
 

I have it, I use it, but can not truly say that it is a game changer. But I can not say that it hurts anything either. 
 

I don’t use it on my Berkley stuff at all. 
 

And might go out on a limb slightly that river Smallies like Garlic more than their lake cousins. 
 

Use it more to mask my scent, but I don’t think I stink. 

I use "worm juice" for two purposes first as a lubricant because I fish in grass a lot and the "worm juice" helps my plastic baits slide through easier. I use Baitmate with a ½ oz of 100% pure anise oil added; this is to mast any odor my plastic may have pick up.

 

For years many manufacturers of plastic lures used anise to cover the plastic smells.

Didn't know that, will try this!

I put crayfish in a blender with a 3 or 4 drops of anise and some mineral oil.  Grind and add oil to consistency.   Wife don't like it but fish do.
