Would you prefer throwing jerkbaits on a M/F with mono, or a M/M with braid?

with jerkbaits being primarily a visual bait for bass, I don't know how I would feel about throwing them on straight braid, nor have I heard of anyone doing so... I would go with the M/F mono setup if I had to choose.

If you use a M/F, what line do you use? Brand and test if you will.

MF casting,10lb Sufix Advance copoly usually, or any copoly you like. Braid gets fouled in the hooks too often for my patience when the bait lands, but I've used it plenty with jerkbaits and have adjusted my drag to compensate.

MH/F P-Line CXX #10 or 12.

My local walmart carries P-line. I might try that out this spring. Is it manageable? For a baitcaster?

MH Fast with 12lb Tatsu.

Unfortunately that is out of my price range. Maybe in the future tho.

How much are going to spend on braid?  There are other alternatives to Tatsu.  It's great line and tends to last me at least twice as long, if not longer, than most other FC and way longer than most mono lines so in the end based on it's longevity its worth the cost.  I would not buy it at regular price though.

Some other lines to consider.....  Seaguar Invizx, Sunline FC Sniper, and Daiwa Samurai.

I get a heavily discount powerpro braid from a guy i know at a local flea market in the summer. Ive thought abiut trying out the invisx, the pline, the yozuri hybrid, and red label. But havent narrowed it down to 2 yet. 1 copoly and 1 fluoro

Also, would the action on the jerkbait be basically the same between fluoro and copoly?

Just a piece of advice, PowerPro is very protective and selective of who sells their product.  There are tons of counterfeit versions of it.  Selling it a flea market is usually the very definition of  where to find a "counterfeit" product.

The slack line sensitivity of braid is terrible, so I always use fluoro or mono for jerkbait. Although for the majority of time fish hook themselves on jerkbait fishing, I still want to feel the bite on slack line if possible.

I've been known to throw a jerkbait now & again.

I use a M/F stick with braid & a FC or mono leader on spinning gear 75 % of the time

And

a M/F blank with FC on casting gear the other 25%

Both work for me

Having had troubles with braid on my baitcaster I switched to Suffix Elite mono, 14 pound test, and it casts wonderfully and doesn't seem too stretchy for hard jerks.  Rod is a Point Blank XF action.

I have never been able to make FC work well on BC, and would not take a chance on expensive FC that could easily fail with the first backlash.   Just too fragile.   I know it works for many, but not for me.

Yea he is in no way a licensed seller of anything. He just has a bunch of it. Sells a lot of tackle. Could be counterfeit I would never know. But I doubt it. Just an old man that loves fishing. All I know is i like a lot on my all purpose rod.

For the life of me I just cant do jerkbaits on a spinning rod. Idk if its the old budget gear or what. Its awkward to me and I tend to get loops on my spool. Ive never put braid on a spinning reel yet so that could be my problem. Might have to try that out

I hear Ya ~

I've been doing it for a while (insert a few decades).

Even do topwater with it; especially walking baits.

Really fits the bill for me fishing in a stiff breeze.

Just watched your video. It seems that you do more of a side sweep with some intermittent side twitches (which obviously the fished loved) Ive never fished a jerkbait that way. That seems like it will be easier to do from my kayak this year. Most videos Ive seen are fairly aggressive downward twitches which I will be unable to achieve from sitting in a kayak. Thank you sir.

My jerkbait "retrieve" & approach changes a little with the water temp, the time of the year

and the mood of the fish but the basic premise is almost always the same.

I'm strivinging to make the bait look like it's trying to get away,

but not doing a very good job.

Over working the bait seems to be counterproductive almost all the time.

I talk about it briefly here

If you like it, then why not?  I just got to see a bunch of vendors and shoppers get busted  and PowerPro (along with other fishing gear for that matter) was one of those products.

Ask and you shall receive - you’ve now been recommended every line option available to man - lol. Decide wisely ?

On a more serious note, I’m the reciprocal of@A-Jay, that being 75% fluoro on casting gear and 25% braid with mono/fluoro leader on spinning gear - the spinning gear being used with smaller and lighter jerkbaits like the smaller Husky Jerks, which are pond favorites.

I've found when you combine Braid, spinning tackle and treble hooks/Jerkbaits, it invites line wrap......line wrapping around the trebles.

A Flouro leader will mitigate it some but a baitcaster will completely eliminate this. Imo

Power pro has been my line of choice and when a leader is preferred, Sunline sniper.

And for your third option

8# YZH on M/F casting gear - about 80% of my jerks

6# InvizX on ML/MF spinning  - the other 20% (the 'little' ones)
