Fishing Tournaments

Featured Replies

Hey Everyone,

I apologize if this is in the wrong area (mods, please move it if it is), but what tournaments would you guys recommend? I've signed up for KBF and will sign up for Slay Nation's kayak series shortly, but what else is out there for either the northeast or nationwide CPR tournaments. Keep in mind I only have a kayak, no high-end bass boat yet. I still have to soften the blow of that with the wife. ?

Thanks everyone.

Might want to check B.A.S.S. Nation - see if they have an Open in your area.

Tourney-X also has links to tournaments all over the country...including a month-long, regional CPR series.

Thanks MN, I'll definitely check those out.

IMHO, the series is far less important than the club when you are starting out.  Use Google and Facebook and find local organizations first, without regards to what series they participate in.  Find a good, comfortable local club for a year or two....the rest will take care of itself.

Looks to be a KBF group on FB, Adirondack Kayak Bass Fishing that is fairly active.   I'd join now and see if they might be a fit

Thank you everyone for your responses. It looks like I have a lot to choose from.

KSanford,

You might be better off to find a local trail. Not much in the way of bass club's on the kayak side of the fence (at least in Texas anyways). We have trails here in Texas.  North, East, South East and West Texas all have trails that are open for anyone to fish. Our central Texas sponsor ACK called it quits this year.  I'm not sure if ACK went under or the bean counters with Summit Sports that bought them out decided that encouraging growth in kayak fishing wasn't a good business model.

Face Book is a good place to search for groups in your area.   Just starting out the KBF monthly's can be pretty cut throat. You have to have some pretty productive waters and have the time to commit to do well.

Good luck and please keep us updated!

Thank you for the advice Mickey, I'll definitely look into that.

To put part of this in perspective (and going on what you said), I play golf competitively and if you play in a local amateur tournament you'll have good competition, but nothing crazy. If you play in an open tournament (open to anyone, pros, am's, you name it) it'll be pretty cutthroat. I'd definitely like to get my feet wet at the lower level before going up against people who are essentially minor league fishermen.

I believe you have a good handle on this. Start out where your comfortable and move on if the desire is there.

I think ACK got bought out like 5 years ago like you mentioned but just recently they changed to "the house" and I have seen on other bulletin boards that some locations are closed.

Thanks Gary. I just know how frustrating it can be to show up for a tournament and get run over. Again, to put it in a fishing perspective, I’d like to get my feet wet in a tournament where if I caught 2-3 fish I did ok. Not one where I need to catch a limit just to have a chance of being competitive.

Might check fishing facebook groups, see if they do yak tourneys too.

Go on Facebook and join the KBF and KBN groups.  You'll find all kinds of fellow kayak anglers that fish tourneys.  If you're just getting started then I would look for a local club.  If you're looking for national tourneys then KBF, BASS and Hobie are the top three.
