MB Levante Braillist or Loomis E6X JWR

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I'm looking at a bottom contact rod for throwing jigs for smallmouth. Roughly 3/8-1/2 oz jigs, texas rigs and dark sleepers.

I was wondering which rod would be the better choice? Braillist or E6X894C JWR 7’5 Heavy. Both are exactly $200. Thanks

I doubt you'll find someone with both.  I would bet sensitivity is close between the two.  Judging by the line rating of 8-20lb, the megabass should be a softer tapered rod.  Lifetime Warranty favors the Loomis.  Looks favor the megabass.

I have both the Orochi Braillist and the E6X 894. The 894 is lighter weight and more powerful. Both would work but Braillist is better in open water/light cover up to 1/2 oz jig.  894 for 1/2 - 3/4 jigs and/or around cover. Of the 2, I would choose the Braillist based on your OP.

I have the Braillist and love it. The trigger is a little small for my liking but that's my only gripe. I used it for swimjigs (braid) during the summer for largemouth then slapped a reel with 15lb fluoro on it in the fall for dragging football jigs for smallies.

If you can find it for $199 still, that'd be my choice.

I have no experience with the Megabass but I do with the E6X. Way overpriced for what it is and you can find a lot better rod in the $200 range

Brailist shines dragging 3/8 to 1/2oz footballs.  It's a top 3 favorite rod for me.

brailiist to me and its not close.
