Any Reel Suggestions for DX 744C

Featured Replies

The thread says it all. Do you recommend a 7:1 or 8:1. I will use it more of a casting jigs, worms, occasional flip and pitch.

The two I'm targeting are the Tatula SV TW or Shimano MGL 150.

Either reel and either speed are great options. My preference leans more toward the tat sv and 7.1 speed. I find daiwas braking system to be more user friendly and am willing to sacrifice a tiny bit of casting distance for it.

Casting jigs I prefer the 8:1 Tatula. Easier to get a good hook set using the reel and rod sweep technique.

If you think you might throw an occasional moving bait such as a swim jig or VJ then you may want to lean toward the 7 ratio.  Otherwise, Tom’s recommendation is also mine.

I think I might just pair it with my Chronarch MGL 150XG.  I've had luck skipping jigs, casting and pitching jigs with it.

I'll use my Scorpion DC 150XG as my frog reel.

Man I'm so disappointed!!! I was really hoping to get a Metanium for my 744c. I had gathered a bunch of reels for trade. They were in stock before the weekend and now they are all sold out. I was banking on having a nice rod and reel that I spend a lot of time fishing. Chronarchs are still good reels, but when you get the chance at the holy grail of Shimano Reels (Metanium) and the opportunity is gone, it really deflates your hopes. I have a good line up, the Metanium would have made it better!!!

Have a Tat Sv 8 speed on mine.

I went jdm for my mets because of cost and availability.  Digitaka is sitting at $270 right now and in stock.

PS - I have a DX 744 FH and actually prefer a 7oz reel on it.

I have 3 of the DX 744 FH & have the Metanium 2020 XG on all 3. It's a excellent combo.
