Yamamoto Kut Tail Worm Shortage

Featured Replies

Yep, Yamamoto Kut Tails and computer chips for automotive.

Kut Tails setting in a sea box beyond the harbor?
Maybe possibly in a warehouse not being released until they get repackaged?

I may be mistaken but I believe Yamamoto baits are made right here in the good old USA!  They may be having the same problem Zoom is having, getting their plastisol!

We are in a crazy time right now. Things will turn around. I'm not hardup, just wanted to put more on a current order.

I thought they were made in Arizona so I wouldn't think they would be sitting in a container offshore.

Wasnt there a thread about GYCB changing owners or something?  I hope they dont discontinue them.  I used to throw kut tails all the time.  For whatever reason they stopped making the 5 3/4" which was my favorite size.  I still have a couple bags left, but once they became difficult to replace I all but stopped using them.

Bass Pro still has the magnum kut tail worm as a house brand. 6in long showing available. Maybe ?

Last season I picked up the BPS Gr. Pump. / Pearl. I took the chance because it looked good for smallies. It did work well on the river.

I might do more of the BPS Cuts, I might just hold out to get what I want. BPS has their own color scheme of things going on. Not sure how much I want to get involved with them. I’m not hard up and I can hang in there for it to turn around.

It’s just unreal that something as simple as a rubber worm is now an issue. What do I know.

What’s the difference between a cut tail and a curly/ribbon  tail worm?

Curly tail is just that. Cut tail resembled a diamond shape.

It is literally exactly what it sounds like, a curl tail worm that has been cut. If I remember correctly, Gary was in a tournament, cut down a curl tail worm to experiment and started whacking them and the rest is history... Those things are DEADLY!

Yamamoto Kut Tail - 7X-10-042J

Also, @Spankey tacklewarehouse has kut tails in stock and on sale, but it is a wierd assortment of sizes like they are closing them out... so maybe they aren't going to make them anymore.

Thanks for the heads up. They (TW) has had little to nothing for quite some time. It looks like they are getting more in. That may be a good sign that more are coming. I want to believe that. What I need is not in yet.

I’m gonna stay positive about it. I could be wrong and I hope I’m right I don’t think they are discontinuing them. That could be a sale on the ones they have. They have more on their sight today than they did Monday. I’ve been keeping a close eye.

I realize it’s just a simple worm but I never hesitate to throw them. T-rig or Wacky. I really only use 3 basic colors and have been striking out finding what I want.

The BS must be shipping, delivery, mfg., stock issues. The cut tail worm is not the big huge rave in the fishing world. Can’t be.

Good fishing.

I’m sort of finding the same thing with some Reactions innovations stuff I want also.

Somewhat of an FYI or update. Somewhat of a decent source of info on them. East Coast tackle distributer guy.

Was told Yamamoto was gonna drop the Kut Tail Worms. They had stopped making them. Was told they were going to put them back into production. Question on this worm were being raised.

Sounds good to me. But have to see it to believe it. Sort of only believe 50% of what I’m told or read.

I’d like to see the Yamamoto bring this back but if Strike King or RoboWorm were to pull off these same worms in a handful of basic patterns that would be as good or better.

Strike King has their version.

Do what Gary did and cut your own using a curl tail worm.

Sure there are ways around it. Probably can be done 7 ways to Sunday. Could just buy them from BPS.

idk what size you like but i take a 4 inch power worm and cut the last part of the tail off. works like a champ.

If you look for Yamamoto Cut Tail worms they are available on several online sites in several lengths and colors.

Similar in shape but very different action wise, relatively speaking. I find the flange on the cut-r-worm tail gives it a more aggressive thump compared to a cut tail which is more of a slow wag.

Just an FYI I was able to score on some 5" Yammy Kut Tails. Colors I wanted except for no Black availiable. Oh well. From a vender they don't want us talk about here, and I won't. So there are a few Kut Tails out there. Whether they fully come back time will tell. They are just a worm that works decent for me rigged a few different ways.

Originally I thought the shortages on the Yamamoto Kut Tail were just a supply and demand issue.  Since they have disappeared on most sites I guess the rumor of them being discontinued was true.

Luckily I have a few years supply. Maybe they will come back before I run out.

No, I have a stash of them but could use some more in certain colors.

A couple of years ago I had tried the BPS 4 1/2" Cut Tail.  My normal size in Yamamoto is 4".  I did catch fish with the BPS but the feel is different - they are "harder".  That increased durability but I was afraid of getting good hook sets with it as I rig them on a spyder head with the hook point buried.

I guess I need to start mixing those in when I get into a bite where I am going through a lot of them.

I just looked at BPS and my order history.  The last time I had bought their version of the cut tail was a year ago.  I paid $2.15 a pack.  They are now $2.99.  I know that is only 84 cents but it works out to a 39% increase.

Thank you Brandon.

Since my last post on this topic I have been able to order about 75 bags of Yamamoto Kut Tail worms.  Some were at prices not too far off from what I paid before while some were at a price that I wasn’t happy with.  If they become readily available again I will have wasted some money, but if they don’t I now have a good supply.

FYI - if you are willing to pay up the Yamamoto site has them.
