Floor for my fishing cart

Featured Replies

Need some ideas for materials to make a floor for my new fishing cart. Expanded metal looks like a decent solution but I prefer to find something similar but made of durable plastic. Something with plenty of holes so that dirt/sand will drop thru. Any suggestions? Some kind of rigid plastic sheeting made of HDPE?

You can buy sheets of plastic in just about any thickness or color you want

Hardware cloth is light weight and cheap and can be found lots of places.  I keep it around all of the time.

If the cart tubes are steel, go with expanded steel or plastic flooring.  If they're aluminum, use expanded aluminum or plastic.  You don't want to put steel and aluminum into contact with one another because of galvanization.  Hell, depending on how much weight you're putting in there, you might be able to get away with fairly inexpensive corrugated plastic sheet from a big box store.

How about a 1/8" piece of aluminum diamond plate or find an old highway sign and cut it up. The signs are made out of 1/8" flat aluminum.

Or a piece of Lexan or plastic glass.

The beach/pier carts I've seen near the ocean are made to hold a cooler, a white bucket and maybe a tackle box or a folding chair. They never seen to have a floor. One more thing to catch sand I suppose.

Then take a drill to it and drill holes to let the water weep out

And you wont need a drill to drill out

Much easier to cut/fit and you wont need a drill to drill out

Here's some pre-drilled PVC sheets for $15. Maybe too small but it's a start. Not sure it would cut well due to holes hmmm.

I just Googled "plastic sheet with holes" and found this and others...

This would be fun to customize. Wish I had a use for one! Could make it look like a Radio Flyer maybe :)

ABS would be good if you could find it with holes already (see above)
