Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster. I'm looking for a new reel for my jerkbait rod and I'm considering the SLX DC and the Curado 150MGL. I have a couple of Curados and love them, I have never used a DC reel though but it seems it would be a great choice for throwing jerkbaits on those windy days. My main concern is loosing casting distance with the DC reel, has anyone used both and can provide some input on which reel I should go with and why?

I have the Curado DC and 3 reels with the MGL spool. For casting into the wind the DC wins out but under normal conditions I can get almost as much distance out of the MGLs as I can the DC, sometimes more.

That's good to know. That was the main reason for considering the DC reel was for casting into the wind, I just don't want to be disadvantaged under normal conditions with the DC reel. If they're comparable under normal conditions then that should work good I would think.

About 2.5 years owning both DC and MGL spools, I think the MGL casts for distance, casts with precision, and I backlash at similar rates with both types of spools.  I really have to search my brain to find a reason to recommend the DC over the the MGL.  Casting into the wind is probably the only thing it does better.  And I'm not even positive about that.  I would get the Curado MGL, I have one in an online cart right now myself.  Also, you get the curado internals upgrade over the slx for virtually the same price.

Curado MGL….all day long 

Firstly, welcome to the forum. I took my Curado DC out for the first time yesterday and was impressed with its casting distance until my FG knot failed, resulting in a cut-me-out bird’s nest I couldn’t reproduce on my own if I tried.

 

Other than that I like it and find it casts a little farther than my other reels at similar price points.

 

If you’re already comfortable with baitcasters,  I suggest the MGL.

Another vote for the MGL's. My DC is OK but I'll never need to try another.

MGL is way better super good casting distance even in the wind. I don't have the slx DC but I do have the curado DC and I like the MGL better

Love the curado line, but feel any of my DC are not worth the extra cost. Will not be buying another DC, even if I were to fish in the wind every day, all day. A regular curado has as much success when you get to accustomed to it 

Sounds like the MGL is the way to go. I like to think I'm pretty good with baitcasters but I do get the odd backlash when casting into the wind so I thought the DC might help a bit to eliminate that. Thanks for all the feedback.
