Hi Everyone,

 

   I need another spinning rod like I need a hole in my head, but I have the itch to get the Fenwick world class 6'10 ML, I have had Fenwick's in the past and always liked them. Anyone have any input or experiences with the world class rods they can share before I decide to pull the trigger

I had one of the casting models, 6’8 MH/XF. I was not a huge fan of that rod but I wouldn’t say it was because it was bad quality. I just didn’t like the taper and it was far stiffer than I expected. The cork was nice and I thought it was really light. I don’t think you’d go wrong in choosing it. At that price point there may be better but I don’t have much experience with rods around that price.

Although I have not used that rod, Omnia has is on sale for 229.00.

It has cheap fazlite guides.

I have the previous generation. The rod lacks sensitivity. Good for small crank. Nothing more.

At about the same pricing point, this Okuma is KILLER!

And it has Fuji sic guides that will never groove.ive never even lost an insert or had a single issue with them in over 20 years.

That's why I was thinking about picking it up, but so far it seems like it isn't even worth it at $229.00 based on the feedback I'm seeing,  I may bite the bullet and go hardcore and pick up a the new Steez Finesse game special,  I have an opportunity to pick it up 20% off, but I keep hearing there could be issues with guides breaking.

I have been eyeing that rod for a while,  I was waiting on a sale.

Thank you for the feedback.  That is definitely not what I want it for, I was looking for sensitivity for shakey heads and neko rigs.

I have 3 of the last gen - 2 casting and 1 spinning, which will be put on sale in near future.  Like other said, the sensitivity is not on par with its $300 price tag, but it's not that bad. It's more around the $200 rods sensitivity level.  It's very light and strong though, thanks to the proprietary Powerlux 500 resin.

Fenwick is no longer a company, it’s brand name owned by Pure Fishing made in China.

$200 -$300 budget will get you some excellent light weight spinning rods. The design of the handle and materials preferred only you can choose. Good quality 6’10” MLF spinning rods today average weight 3.5-3.8 oz.

I would pass.  My last two Fenwicks (Elite Tech) broke about 6 inches from the tip. Usually I would say this was user error but not on these rods.  They broke on a cast. I was able to warranty both and the replacements seemed to be of an even lesser quality.  I sold them both. 

Thanks for the replies everyone,  I'm going to pass on Fenwick, it seems that it's not the quality rod it used to be and I can get more for my money with another brand.

I like my Fenwick Eagle and HMX but not enough to try their higher end stuff.
 

If I am going to spend over $200 that rod is going to be from St Croix

If your in the market for a ML spinning rod in the $200 range, I would check out the Daiwa Rebellion line. I picked up a 6'8" ML-F 2 piece spinning rod. Very light weight, nice tip action, with good backbone, comfortable, sensitive, excellent workmanship. They also have a 7ft ML-f in one piece.

 

As for Fenwick, they used to be much better. I have an elite tech Smallmouth casting rod that I really enjoy. Had a HMG 2 generations ago that was also really nice. The new stuff is not the same quality.

I have a Rebellion 7ft ML 1 piece and I love it, I am so impressed with it that I am considering a significant upgrade to the Steez AGS finesse game special.  It seems like the consensus is the new stuff from Fenwick is not what it use to be.
