It was like being flushed away in a toilet. Delta Ca kayak fishing.

It was OMG windy.  I’d guess a steady 8-10 mph with 15 gust.  At one point while fighting wind and tidal currents, pushing my pedals furiously only got me 2mph.  I felt like I was in a hamster wheel.  Casting;  eddy currents spun us around and around. If you pause to pick at a backlash, by the time you looked up you were 100 feet away.   I got pushed into an owners dock hard.  The owner gave that, “get off my lawn look” but kept quiet and went back in his palatial home.  Hehe.   Fishing was tough.  I got three fish. I lost three hard bites because my line was always so slack from it washing around in the currents. It was SO MUCH FUN!  The California Delta is Scary and challenging.  Always beautiful and mysterious on the delta for me.   And I got a lot better punching mats.  My left hand punch-pitching is getting better. :)  Not sure my buddies will go back, but I am. There is a lot to explore.   I talked to another kayaker and he got 5 bass and 6 striper, so I know I have lots to learn.

I am not a kayaker, but I do not know how you guys do it on the windy days on the Delta.  Even with an 80# thrust trolling motor, I sometimes feel like I am working hard to keep the boat under control when the current and the wind collude against me.

@Darth-Baiter  I enjoy Greg Blanchards videos from there, some big fish out there for sure.

I’ve seen him out on the water. I never bother him.

I was out yesterday on a boat with 20-30mph winds. It was not fun but the main lake I kayak fish at has a sustained wind of 10 to 15 mph with guests up 20 mph on a daily basis. I wish it was 8-10 mph.

We had sustained 30-35 with gust to 40-50 last Saturday. First times I've ever seen white caps on the 30 acre lake I was fishing ?

The lake I primarily fish is very narrow and there's a good amount of boat traffic and some days out on my kayak I feel like I'm in a wash tub. Waves and wakes blow past me, then bounce of the sea walls. It gets ridiculous when you have a fresh boat wake on one side then the rebound from another off the sea wall on the other side. I'm very thankful that I have a stable kayak.

I fish a solo canoe and this year added a 10' pond hopper plastic boat w/55 lb TM. Went out Monday, got to the pond up in the mts and found 10-15 mph winds. Normally with the canoe I would forget it and head home. This time I had the plastic boat and figured I'd give it a try as I'd driven the hour+ to get there @ $4 a gallon. Worked out surprisingly well with 2 anchors. Other then having trouble tying knots and keeping my hat on, the wind wasn't much of a factor. So now I have an option for the windy days, other then going home. Just have to take the right one.
