The house we’re renting right now the living room tv has Roku and we like it for the most part. I’ve never used an Amazon fire stick. What does the fire stick have to offer? If you had to choose one what would it be? Are there other options besides those? I’m not looking to do any subscription base deals like Netflix.

We use a couple fire sticks on not-so-smart tvs.  Like it fine.  Interface for moving around menus and typing is good.  But... we watch Prime as much as anything....and I've never used Roku or Google or any others to compare 

I am not 100% up on Roku but I just got three new firesticks and they offer ease of use and ability to add apps very easily.  The other advantage is if you want to take it with you somewhere else, it is easy to do, just unplug it and roll.  

 

The biggest thing is on any streaming device is to make sure you have the bandwidth in the house.  At any given time I have 7-8 devices online and a couple are streaming so I bumped up my service and it has made a big difference.  

We've got a Roku on the main 50" in the LR and the 32" in the BR has built-in Roku.

 

Quite a few decent channels on that - and we also subscribe to Disney (which gets you Star Wars) and Paramount (Star Trek - duh)

 

Never used a FireStick - but we can also get our Amazon Prime through the Roku.

We have a roku tv and a fire stick on a different tv...my opinion is they are very comparable.

What does it have to offer? Not paying $200 a month for cable. I've got Firestick at work. Plenty of free apps that are included. Some live tv as well. I think I watch Amazon and Tubi mostly. 

 

My issue with Firestick is I'm old and impatient. I could potentially die tomorrow. I don't have time to waste searching for programs. I want it now!.......Seriously, my only complaint is the search functions not being old guy friendly

Honestly, I don't know what I pay for cable itself. I pay $200 for cell, land line, cable, internet/wifi, and whatnot bundle.

Well that’s not bad. Mine is a bundle too minus the landline.

Cable/Internet/phone, yeah, it's a bit over that. Wife has to have the channels she's got to have, and I need fail safe lightning fast backed up internet for trading, and since it's technically work, it gets written off, like tackle.
