Shimano SLX Casting Rod, 7MH Owners

Featured Replies

Hi,

Got this said rod yesterday, it was on sale for $50 at a local fishing store, new.

I've read of breakage using the rod, should I be worried? It does have a 1 year warranty from Shimano.

How do you like this rod also?

I've fished 2 SLX MH 7' for over a year now and have had no problems, but I do not boat flip fish. I actually fish 4 SLX rods with no problems. Yes that's a Aldebaran MGL 50 on a SLX rod.

I broke one a few weeks ago but it wasn't the rods fault.  I had a lure stuck on something a couple feet under the surface near the edge of a dock.  Like an idiot (can I refer to myself as that) I reeled the rod all the way up to the lure to try to shake it loose.  I ended up breaking off the lure.  When I went to tie on another the last 6 inches or so of the rod was missing.

Again, not the rods fault.

I think $50 isn't much for a rod.  I think the last thing to worry about is breakage.  Just fish the heck out of it and enjoy it.

Take care of your stuff and it will take care of you.

No high sticking. No using the rod to get lures unstuck. Watch out for obstructions around you when casting. Set your rod down gently. Don’t leave it propped against something for long periods of time. Don’t tighten your line too much with the hook in the rods hook keeper. No “send it to heaven” hooksets.

If your rod breaks and you were truly not the cause then it is a manufacturer’s defect and the warranty will take care of that.

Breakages? Quite surprisingly since these rods use a very cheap, yet strong 24-ton blank. Stay away from the overpriced 24-ton shimano rods.

I've had a 72 MH for over a year, and it is pretty stout. I can't imagine it breaking under normal use.

Ok, no high sticking. Actually I don't high stick when I land a bass. I guess the reviews I read about breakage are high stick landings.
